Yeah that’s it bud it’s a single man’s game most of the people I’d know still at it haven’t families. My father lived away from us 11 months of the year when I was young but lots of men did it wasn’t that strange back then. Will it really be the dream you all imagine?....yes, for me it has been, the freedom here in Canada compared to the uk is night and day.....

as for going to work....unless your loaded, yes, you would have to go to work pretty much what ever country your in, the difference is the quality of the way you work, it`s more laid back here, yes, you do a days work but not with the same pace as some of the places I've worked in the uk, i wouldn't necessarily say you would need to be a highly skilled person to get a good wage to live on here, a skilled person can live really well. a handyman tradesman lives a good comfortable life style as well.....

as for living off the grid in the uk, i didn`t think you was allowed to.....i thought the council wouldn`t allow you to do so.....whereas here, if you own a wooded area or land you can build your off grid home....when you look for land for sale the opening line from the realtor is......build your dream home here....

so as it goes, it was the best move i have ever done, we have a small house (1000sqft) out in the countryside on half an acre, work shop, craft shop, all paid for, living in the uk it would take 25 years to pay that off.....everything i have here has taken 9 years, i work now as and when a job comes in....

Probably due to my age i wouldn't leave the UK though i would definitely move to another part of the country some where more remote that the madness of mass immigration has not affected for the time being. The Orkneys or a small village on the East coast some where. I know a couple of lads who have moved to Thailand the same age as me and can live comfortably on their pit pension and state pension.

I’m getting pissed right off here in this country we seem to be the ones getting hit up the bollox for all these unchecked, non skilled, single males, unknown non contributors to our economy/ country. If that makes me a racist then so be it. Thailands been done not very cheap nowadays , work salary is shit compared to living costs, Spain not sure I reckon some areas could be great, Penang in Malaysia is cheap , I went to Riga in Latvia last few months ago, very surprised, clean , polite people, the countryside looks amazing. I reckon Albania is my next look around place. I’ve had my house on the market for 4 months ffs, only 1 viewing markets f****d. Wonder why??? Taxing the grannies out of us.

Just in Norfolk at the moment out in the sticks. Not seen one migrant or funny fella. Am sure there here in the big town centre's,  but out here it's bliss. Took the dog for a tom tit  at 5.20am and in first 15 mins walk down the lane and seen 5 munties and 2 chinks.  Far cry from were I live mate , very peaceful it is. And I've stayed and rabbited on Sanday so I know were your coming from.

Sounds like heaven that place in Norfolk mate. I still believe their is still places in the UK for the time being that are like another world to the town and city's across the UK. Places like Thailand and such like have never interested me to the point of ever wanting to visit them let alone wanting to live in them though Canada Australia and new Zealand have.

The hardest thing I think for people is the mental leap…..that’s what I get from various conversations I’ve had.

The reality is, you just do it and work it out as you go along…..

That is of course easier if you have a few quid to pad you out.

Id also say, be sure about why you are doing it…..if it’s to change your life then keep that in mind, if it’s freedom from all the daily little abuses we suffer in the U.K. then keep that in mind, I’d say if (unless you are a young man) it’s for financial gain then that’s not a reason to do it……that said wages are better and costs lower in lots of places including here.

It wasn’t a mental leap for me when I did it, I was just at the end of my tether and would have literally gone anywhere……I couldn’t wait to get the f**k out…..but it’s still a massive adjustment, you don’t realise how conditioned you become to all the shit and abuse and rules and regulations and business and clammer of the U.K. 

Its like Stockholm syndrome 

My mate did the whole move to Canada thing and it was honestly hard for him because he comes from a big family and you don’t just hop in a plane for a visit every month…..Europe ? £50 on Ryan air and you can be anywhere in 2 hours or you can just drive so it’s not that big a deal. 
 

But the bottom line is, it’s as hard as just doing it…..if you have a house with some equity then you can do it no problem.

If you have a pension coming your way, you’re laughing !

I decided to stay where I am after army so ended up couple hundred miles away from nearest family im both directions an I can say that was hard, never mind fcukkng off abroad, but like ye mate I come from a huge family where big family get together was an almost daily thing at some points
