I’d guess they didn’t get the dna from that far back. I assume they match your dna profile with other dna that’s available and build up a “family tree” based on birth, death and marriage records, much like we did before dna records became available. A New Zealand niece of mine did it the old fashioned way, going through council records, visiting graveyards etc. Her task would have been easier and quicker if she had access to modern dna records. Just my take on it, mate. Cheers.

They don't lol, these tests don't just look at your DNA do they, they have access to all the genealogical records as well you know? So, think about it, if your DNA matches with someone and their family tree goes back to the 1600's or whenever, this suggests that the person is one of your ancestors also. Which is why I said these tests are pointless in some ways because we are all related, we all share a common ancestor, it's just stating the obvious.

I always thought that all my grandparents were pure north west England, Wales and Ireland. The DNA test was pretty clear on that, with NWE, Wales and Ireland markers only. Nothing Germanic or Nordic. Just traced back and both sides of my mum's line (grandad was Welsh and spoke it) ultimately all come from County Cork and Kildare. Earliest I've got so far is 1786. Bloody interesting. I'm gonna start on my dad's side soon but like I said, with the DNA results it's likely no different. This all started because I wanted to look into my granddad's war history (born in 1906). I've photos of his paybook etc and it took me right down a warren lol. Anyone else done this? How far did you get back and what tools did you use? We all knew you were heavily Irish blooded lol
