jukel123 9,230
But think what you'll be missing. A hot day, with thousands of people shuffling along a tiny corridor of grass basically looking at overpriced field sports goodies in tents. You'll miss the lads being dragged by their panting gundogs wearing their green wellies, Barbour jackets and with their gundog whistles prominently on view around their necks. Some even dress their bored wives in similar garb and drag them along too. You'll miss the leather hat lads fulfilling some fantasy about themselves, the lurcher lads and the terrier lads with their frustrated demented terriers screaming" come and have a go if you think you're f****n hard enough" at every passing dog. The lurcher and terrier guys will be dressed in camo and showing off their freshly polished rip _off_ price hunting boots. Don't forget the queues for ice cream, wild boar sarnies and venison burgers...all charged at mortgage prices. There will be some lad showing off ferrets and talking very earnestly about how to work them. I thought you just stuck em down a hole. But apparently there's loads I'm missing. I must buy one of the dozens of books about working ferrets and educate myself. Then there's the competition boys. Expressions deadly serious whilst competing to shoot more clays than the next fella or whipping their fly line into a frenzy trying to cast further and more accurately than the other guy. Don't forget the beer tent with groups of guys telling never ending macho stories about themselves. Nobody listening, everybody broadcasting. Bah, humbug. Cynicism rules! Stay f****n home and buy your stuff cheaper on the Internet, skip the fashion show and the hours spent queuing in your car. You will save a day you would never get back otherwise. I know your post is very tongue in cheek but the less these shows stay going the quicker field sports will die out. I don't go to any now but think they are still a good thing for the "general public" to get an insight into what is a dying pastime. On a personal note I wear a flat cap, tattersall shirt and Gillet most of the time and dont own a farm even though I've been called a phoney farmer on occasions and when Im fishing I look like a extra from Duck Dynasty at times 1

Luckily , I've got a missus who keeps me grounded with her vicious ,critical remarks like "who the f**k do you think you're supposed to be? Etc etc. But I've never quite 'got' uniforms for sports...the tennis look, the cricket look and the golf look. People obviously feel a need to belong. Nothing wrong with it, just a bit weird. Ex army is the way to go. Or as my son says: ffs dad, you look like Compo. Edited July 17 by jukel123
