My mother in law is not the best at all . On her 4th husband now , has got a acid tongue and is selfish beyond belief . I could write a book about some of the bitch things shes done or said over the years . Her latest husband seems a nice enough guy but he hardly see him or her these days  , the marriage before was who my girlfriend considers her father basically.  He was a very boring man but a man who I've got the highest level of respect for . Took my other half om as his own when she was 6 years old and did everything a real father should do.  Hes moved away since him and my mother on law spilt 7/8 years ago (because she was cheating) and we dont see each other as much as we would like but he would drop what hes doing at the drop of a hat and get in a car and drive at 100mph if my other half wanted anything.  Hes a proper man .

My mother in law lives in Ireland with her new guy and we maybe see her once a year , talks loudly online about how much she loves the kids but very rarely sees them. My daughter loves her still but my boy couldn't give a shit about her .

Just one example of her

Last year my mrs found out on the family grapevine that her mum was coming over to Wales from ireland  to go for a week on a canal with her new husband and his family.  She phoned her mum and said " that canals 30 mins away from us , we will come down for the day , kids will love to see you and the boy especially will get a hell of a kick about being on a canal boat " . Her mother sort of said " yeah..... that will be great.... I will confirm the date and make a day of it"

Found out 3 months later on the family grapevine (basically my brother in law) that she had been to the canal , enjoyed the week , and went home . Didn't bother telling my mrs when she was coming . Couldn't be arsed more like

My parents are top notch I've got to be honest.  My dad won't have my mother in law in his house he just can't abide her . My dad was a good swimmer in his youth and it's something me and my brother never took on which he was a bit gutted about . My boy as a kid loved water , at the youngest age would jump in the deep end and had zero fear or water and my old man was so happy about that .  Mother in law took him swimming and was chatting up the life guard and wasn't paying attention to the 6/7 year old she was supposed to be looking after and he slipped into the pool and got into difficulty and luckily another swimmer saved him.  Took me and my mrs 5+ years of paying for swimming lessons and constant coaxing him in the water to get him to a stage where he would go in water over his chest height.  Even now he insists on wearing goggles and nose clip . Since that day my dad won't have her .

My mum does more of a mothers job with my Mrs than her own mother . They went out clothes shopping few days ago , she has been by my mrs side with my Mrs career in care helping her practise for interviews and going through all the paperwork and stuff like that.

For me the one word that comes to mind with my mother in law is "dissapointment" .

My mrs is a hard woman but I have seen her mum turn her back into quiet little girl over the dinner table before with cutting remarks

1 last thing about my mother in laws selfishness . They moved a bit around England when my mrs was in high school . My mrs is really switched on , she was in line to get all As in her gcse 's . She had been approached in year 10 in school by universities looking at her predicted grades about going to their universities she was that switched on . Beginning of year 11 (final year of gcse's) her mum moved them all down to deep rural Wales. All my mrs gcse choices wernt available to carry on,  the lessons were taught in Welsh,  she had to make a whole new set of friends and try to get into social groups of friends who had been together since childhood. Obviously her grades dropped and she got a few As but nothing of note . That move seriously knocked my mrs off her potential life course . I honestly believe if they had stayed in England she would have gone on to 6th form and university and would be a force in any sort of business she went to

Kids were young and her mum was having dinner with us at our house . Talking amoungst ourselves about the kids in school and my mother in law leans over to my son and says " you need to make sure you get good grades , your mother never got them because she was lazy in school " . My mrs voice started quivering " I only got bad results because you moved me over the country all the time and took me to a country where its all different for my last year " . My mother in law leaned in to my son again and scrunched her nose and said " nah , she was just a bit lazy" . My mrs held it together and when she was taking the plates in at the end she was broken in the kitchen , just totally shot . I made sure to tell my kids later what a bitch their mother in law is and that in part is why my son dont give a shit about her .

Mother in law had probably around 750k in her bank from relatives dying and always mentions half jokingly how she will leave everything go a donkey sanctuary.  Everyone thinks its just her joking being a bitch but I reckon it will be her last big "f**k you" to her kids who she has taken pleasure in being a cnut to far to often

If I had boiled my parents with my misses parents and moulded them all into one person you would struggle to get one decent person out the four

Ive had a coupe of odd experiences with in laws the ex wifes mother was an absolute raving sort who i was about 30 seconds away from copping hold of one day until a mate of mine came along and spoiled it all !......then years later when i first met my current wife her father had put the word out to some not particularly pleasant people that he was willing to pay them to have me warned off .....without realising that the people he asked to do it were associates of mine who put me in the picture straight away.....needless to say i sat him down and reassured him everything would be hunky dory and now years later he thinks the sun shines out of my arse

Very fond of my In laws, they are thoroughly decent people, even if my wife and i had not married, i would of liked them. Reading some of the comments on here makes me realise i'm lucky.

Cheers. Aled

My inlaws were polar opposite from my parents.

My parents were the sort that 'nothing' was too much trouble, 'salt of the earth' types. No matter how my mother was, even in her final week in hospital, asking how she was, the reply would always be " Smashing, how's Lilly-May" (my daughter)

My inlaws, though very nice, very much had their own lives. The father in law (ex police and publican) had moved to Portugal years before, and came for the odd visit, and we did go over a few times, but nothing too involved.

The mother in law was a lovely person, glamorous and ditzy, i honestly believe if you could of looked inside her head, you'd of just found two kittens playing with a ball of wool..!

But like her own mother and sisters, 'everything' was just too much trouble. And the last thing you'd ask any of them is, how they're doing, as that line would unlock at least a half hour of self pity, loathing and doom and gloom. Even though everything was paid for in the divorce, and she had never worked a day in her life..!

Her/their lives were in a much better place than my parents.

Different people, different ways...

My Mrs mum died 2 year ago...she was a saint....sadly missed only 61...

Wife's never met her father...he was on his toes out the door as soon as he got her mum up the duff......so he keeps the stereotype alive

That stereo type is definitely true mate.My missus's dad is a proper old Rasta and my missus loves him dearly as she was the apple of his eye when she was little. But she has 3 sisters 10,11 and 12 years younger than her and also has 2 half brothers and a half sister 10,11 and 12 years younger than her.Although she loves her dad and sees him regularly she doesn't even mention him to her sisters as they absolutely hate him for what he did to their mum.

Are these associates still open to work? I’ve a mother in law that could do with taking care off.
