The English mastiff is the biggest/heaviest of all the mastiff types make 30" plus, they have st Bernard in their make up,they sometimes throw the thick coats, the bull mastiff is shorter, thicker set, more rottie shaped...the corso are crossed with the great Danes, lanky dogs, they crop the ears and tails on the ones I've seen in the past...when they x the English and Neo's you get the monsters, gentle giant's 👍

these were like it brindle these weren’t gentle giants lol

Could an English Mastiff be bothered to get up and confront a robber? Lol

One of the best looking dogs I've ever seen was an Akita x Bullmastiff in the mid 90's, took more to the Bullmastiff.

Dave Sleights brother had an old English mastiff crossed with a German shepherd in the late 80s a big lump of a dog that was very biddable and more athletic than a pure mastiff.

My opinion on dutch/Belgium shepherds as protection/ guarding dogs.and mine only...my experiance with this bitch. This bitch has brought me thru the saddest times in my seventy odd years of life.as a pup, she would/did/try to wreck the house/car and my head. but she has made an excellent general purpose dog.revelling  at anything you teach/put in front of her.after coming up seven years together she is way part of me...In her adolescence times,i must have threatened to put her in the ground a hundred times..ffs..it took three and a half years for her to sorta off settle down. i am not bragging when I say 8 of ten working dog minded people, could not live with them.situations etc.noisy feckers at the slightest.i live on my own. She is 24/7 with me, even sleeps with me.so....there something else.she has come back up the lead at me three times.my right arm is covered with puppy bites..there wired up wrong.lol.but she keeps my head alive.ive heard all the rubbish about ya cannae wear them out.blah blah blah.errrr..there's ways and means.the most ive give her was biking her 45 miles in one stint.and she was biked morning and night in her younger years..an athlete in my mind...i camp a bit, either canoe/ bike/car/motorhome.she dont miss a trick.hahaha.she is one of the most friendliest dogs I have ever had.a dog that loves life.but..she can switch it on. (jekyll and hide type).even scares me at times.lol.can get tricky to switch off when ya gotta her in the mood.it's taken alot from eight weeks old of socialising to get here.i know of eight of these dogs. and six of them will try and do ya serious harm.

The litter she was out off, was bred for xtra size.to be man stoppers.not them small mal types..she knows her job.trouble was growing up it was me she was wanting to bite.hahaha.

If your situation is like mine go ahead..but don't fail it.

I know nothing of other guarding breeds they would not fit my life style..

Thanks.

Great post mate, to be fair, they sound like the last thing you’d want round toddlers or young children.
Cracking animals, but like all dogs, you have to be honest and mindful about the situation you are bringing them into.

Wilf.

I have done alot of socialising at a outdoor boozer i used to frequent with her.this was the best socialising i could do with her..kids, noise, steam trains whistling etc.(screaming kids switch her on)..people etc..i spent alot of money there, feck she used to  loves avin a pint or two.lol.she was the entertainment. Hahaha .and many drunken bike rides home...she done me lots, pulling me off the bike.  teeth injuries etc..I was that drunk coming home one night (many times).lol.in the pitch dark..kept falling of me bike etc..down the cycle way.so..I just thought feck it layed and had a kip.bike in middle of trackway.she just staying with me.next thing I remember is..are you all right mate.imagine that picture of her.bloke was a braver chap than me.

kids.she loves em.

I have took alot of liberties in the socialising side of things.taking chances etc.but...it had to be done..

It's people on scooters/roller skates,and feckin skate boards.that is a no go jobby.i even bought a fexkin skate board.lol..

As for scum robbing houses etc.feckers want nailing to tree's .I'm glad I'm  the age I am.the good times have gone.i look around and think I wouldn't want to be young again..all you younger ones need a gun aswell as a bit of a deterrent.

Thanks
