neil r 1,945
They do my head in , just when you think you’ve got on top of them loads more appear . I put one coop up last year and they were there in no time and the feeds off the floor so it’s not like there was food on the floor for them . My big coop didn’t have any for over a year then they suddenly appeared. I did clear that shed and it was clear for a while but I noticed they were back last weekend . I’ve used a bit of poison over winter but mainly trapped them in my fen’s and I’ve had loads . My mate at the back of me has had loads in his traps and my mate at the side as been poisoning along with the bloke at the other side . There’s a woman on the way down to my pen that feeds all the wild birds by putting handfuls of seed down all the way from where you park down to her pen . She’s been told to stop because she’s feeding the rats but she just carries on
Bendigo 705
The main issue is over feeding either the poultry or wild birds. Poultry don't need feeders full 24/7. Wild birds don't need 12 different feeders all hung over under growth. Lift cabins and sheds up off the ground so they get a good draught under them, cut back undergrowth and don't over feed

poxon 5,909
We seem to get rats in the garden once the cob corn fields over the road is harvested come early autumn time being semi rural they seem to head towards people’s gardens/sheds trying to get easy pickings on food there’s a lot of old people round me an there gardens are perfect habitat for rats old sheds and crap laying about got a old couple next door to me they got 4sheds and loads of other crap I’ve seen rats darting across there garden from there garden under my fence this year I had a couple of runs leading across my garden and down the fence line I said to them sort it out I’ve young kids you need to tidy ya garden up I offered to do it but they’ve had family come and do it for them when they were putting all the old shit in skips you could smell rat piss and see loads of rat shit they tried saying it’s because I’ve got chickens I’ve only 2 there in a movable house there cleaned out once a week and moved every other day round the grass and I don’t leave food stuffs out I said it’s not my 2chickens that’s the cause of your rat problem my Lurcher bitch has killed 6 rats this winter that thought it safe to try there luck at cutting across my garden to the next one of them was massive I had to double check it was a rat since they cleaned there garden I’ve stopped seeing them or signs of activity. Never used to see any signs of rats about across our garden when I kept ferrets

The woman who feeds the wild birds only has 1 feeder on her pen and everything else is just thrown on the floor and on top of buckets. Out of 30 odd people there’s only 8 of us actively trying to keep them down but we’re pissing in the wind when the rest of them don’t think feeding on the floor and leaving piles of rubbish is a problem . When they get pulled for it they just say you’ll never get rid of rats or I’ve done it like that for years . Another mate has started running the pens and is getting round to telling them all to sort it out . He’s already kicked 2 off that wouldn’t listen

WILF 49,546
You never get rid of rats, certainly not out on a farm. As you all know, the rule is control….just keep at them. I trapped 5 white rats in my shed the other year, no business being white as I’m in the middle of f***ing nowhere so it’s not like I’m near a town and they have been an unwanted pet release that got into the breeding stock…..just pure white, I’ve personally never seen that before. Anyway, be thankful, it would be one less thing to be at if there was none all be it they are a pain in the arse.

I've seen quite a few White rats over the yrs...on council tips, poultry units etc...rats in this video are in and out ...bowls contain half poison half layers pellets..girls at the stables ring me once a month,I go there for a few nights and shoot around 30/40 a time...there's no stopping them,no matter how clean and tidy you try and keep things
