Agreed but that’s a totally different thing mate but if the chap is decent enough I see reason not to respect his position .Those that demean others through title need to be pulled up on it .I’ve known both types .

Sandy seems to think if you are anti Labour, anti EU and think having Corbyn, Mc Donnell and Abbot running the country is absolutely insane, you are automatically a Tory ! Well, no, I voted Labou

Why would the government and big energy companies want to invest money into ways people can live off-grid and independent from them??  It's a business and the world is a business. It has nothing

Other than knocking lights off, stuff off standby,we have carried on regardless since all these energy price hikes started....Gas, Electric and the mortgage,is just shy of £1200 per month, add fuel to g

mate, that stuffs old hat !!! No one goes around recruiting like that ? How do I know ? I was on a recruiting team .

many many many officers are from worse backgrounds than you or I can imagine , I know many officers , rough violent council estate lads who are officers in the military .

There is very very little parity as a junior officer regarding sandhurst , the regiment they are assigned to reflects their performance in training and their preferences  , the best usually get the infantry where a cadet with a degree in engineering may be steered automatically towards one of the supporting arms .

indeed my old troop commander , who I rate as possibly the most intelligent man I’ve ever met , was a rough old valleys boy whose main interests were rugby , the gym , football and boxing , went to the same school as one of the lance jacks , the only deciding factor was that he buckled down an got a first in aeronautical engineering . He would have been wasted as an enlisted man , he was too clever for that game .

I’ll just address this here as well that there seems to be a few here that seem to think that the army is like bad lads army . It’s an agile forward thinking modern organisation that imbues and offers young lads from estates the world  for two hard rules , don’t take drugs and have a shave . ???

what sone of you think it is , I dread to think .

Check out the stats.

I don't get this continual focus on illegal immigration across the channel. The UK pays  out a lot less than other comparable countries on asylum seekers. Most of the boat people are from countries where the west has been poking its military nose. Many are genuine asylum seekers. Civilised countries have to accept their quotas. We accept a lot less than others.

I wouldn't condemn any of them for seeking a better life. One generation ago, my people came across on a boat from Ireland.

In any case they are only the tip of the iceberg. It's estimated there are hundreds of thousands of illegal Immigrants in the UK . Check out nail bars, car washes, foreign restaurants. They are there in plain sight. I'm not grassing on anybody. It's not my job to decide immigration/ asylum policy.

The powers that be love cheap labour, its more economical than investing in new technology and training.

I'm not underestimating the tensions that exist in the northern towns. I've lived there  worked with Pakistan immigrants straight off the boats and I know what it feels like to be a token white man.

But immigration  is just a side issue.

We are a small over crowded island. We are full. 7 million a day just keeping the recent arrivals in hotels. If that's a side issue I don't know what a major issue would be.

The day I see a nurse suggesting that money be spent on health care then I'll change my opinion on nurses pay rise.

The NHS is a wasteful money pit.... again not one suggestion from the union's to change that.

Show me a nurse that didn't support closing the economy down for 2 years......

We should be born equal and then rise to the top dependent on your true abilities not your dad's wealth or your family connections.

There’s plenty rise or fall within every class mate .Birthright is only a start in life ,it’s what you do after that matters .

What stats mate ???

where am I looking for and for what ?

i mean your totally removing such things like the fact that some landed gentry insist on sone form of service for inheritance purposes for their offspring or for some to head into the military as a vocation , or that sone schools point their graduates towards a military career

More fool them , kinda completing the picture for me here tbh . ????

Your low estimate of the military may be coloured by the fact that you’re knocking around with the sort of oxygen thieves that would risk their pension, career and home life for being unable to control their vices .
