Went out this morning at 4.30am. Was a disaster lol. First mistake took the dog and every time I stopped to cast he would start wining and it would drive me round the bend. Was only out half hour and got a snag and gave a wee very sleight tug and rod snapped. Tbh I think the rod was inferior and summat up with it. So came home waited for decathlon to open at 10.30 and went and bought another rod. Went back out for over 2 hours and never got a bite. Complete novice to this, so maybe fishing wrong canal wrong time ect. The water was very discoloured though , not sure if that makes a difference. Tried a few different lures. Mate I ain’t fished a canal for donkeys years but grew up Doing it for perch a little jack pike, a most folk went wrong by casting out into open water. Sure you’ll get the odd bite that way an even few fish, but fish along the bank close to the hedges, near bridges or any sort a snaggy looking place, ye wil Lose more lures that way but will also catch more fish. An after a bit practice you’ll become dealt accurate, half decent pair a polarised specs aswell is summat of deffo say you be better off getting if possible 3 Quote Link to post

If you snag hold the rod straight towards it and walk the rod backwards. If it's coloured try white or yellow lures, don't use trebles and you can get weedless lures where the hook is hidden in the lure until a fish takes it ...like all fishing it's better early or late , I just got back from canal , had small jack and a small perch , had my mother's dog paddling at my feet, tonight will be good for it nice warm evening , but I'm done for the day. This guy's a good watch but there's loads of tutorials on tube. 2 Quote Link to post
