I have seen 2 single handed coyote lurchers. Both were bred by an Irishman who moved here.Coyote hunting is different in Dixie than Iowa. Its done with a mounted hunt and lurchers are used after the coy

Whatever the reason, that coyote's death was too drawn out. Didn't appreciate the video personally. If you can't kill quarry quickly with dogs....use a rifle.

Nice to watch some dogs running toothed game but I have to tell you mate, those dogs would be in the ground in the UK ! Not looking for an argument just telling you in conversation. I caught

I became very disillusioned with American running dogs after reading the Dutch salmon book .

before any one starts the usual different species , different animals etc it just seemed like they f****d about with the dogs kicking stuff up .

there was one picture I think with four dogs on a hare . That’s chip shop as f**k in anyones eyes over here but fair play you have to take into account the size of the country they are running and the capabilities of the prey .

i just don’t see the parity in what we do with dogs to over there , imho we’re head and shoulders above others at the old running game

If those greyhounds had been ex track dogs they would have been keener. Track dogs I have seen on prey have been psychos. They know nothing else but to chase and seize.

In fox packs you always get hounds which will grab, others will be more flirty.

The wolf pack on this thread also shows that some are more prepared to take a risk than others.

The dog family are like people: some will take the lead whereas others will hold back even when they have promised support. Some will do all the work, others will do f**k all  but expect a full share of the rewards.

Yeah, but the dogs in that video obviously CANT do it, despite there being 3 of the mutts…..those dogs were wankers.

Does it really matter Wilf .You and I wouldn’t put up with a jacker on fox but others may not be so fortunate in their canine choice .The real fact is they are out mobbing coyotes that was taken on its own turf .I’ve seen lads here bring the same jacker week after week that runs beside a fox always just out of reach to the owner but plain to see it’s never going to strike for glory .

That same chap enjoys his dog as much as the next .Sometimes they get the real deal if they are connected or breed lucky but often as not he will be happy with rabbits on which I’ve never seen a jacker .Teeth is a specialist thing here if done regular but the odd all rounder does appear .

I used to be very much into culling shite and wouldn’t entertain a jacker in kennels but age has mellowed me to just enjoy being out .Those into the dog game and still mad keen at my age have my respect mate and should ,if into teeth ,have the right gear by now .

To me the halcyon days are long gone and I’d rather kill a fox with a rifle than own a dog that does nowadays .Wouldn’t turn down an invite mind but owning one dosnt have the same draw anymore .

Fair play to you if you are my age and still mad for the right stuff Wilf .

I'm getting on, but when my 14 year old bitch gives up the ghost, I will get another lurcher. If it turns out to be a pot licker so what? I like having a dog about the place. A house seems empty without one.

Age mellows a person. I once rehomed a deer/ grey years ago because it had no minerals. But I wish I'd kept it. It was a cracking companion dog.

Iv saw a few dogs sickened/ruined/jacked on rabbits, few nights a week most of the season getting half decent bags soon let’s you know how much drive a dog has got ?

I'm ashamed to say I ran a dog almost to the point of collapse on rabbits at night. I was  young and stupid and didn't realise a dog has its limits. It was a cracking dog though. It still wanted to run even though it was completely  exhausted. It didn't sicken it for future nights despite its dickhead owner.

I’m not mad for anything now days mate but if I did ever have another dog (and I won’t because there isn’t the proper graft for one) I still couldn’t tolerate a wanker even for just messing about mate……they just ain’t worth the time and effort and believe me, I’ve owned a few.

Last time I was in your neck of the woods It was 30 rabbits to a half acre of grass! I've got good numbers now, but like every back end, the myxie arrives and decimates them.

It does socks but for some a dog is for life not just a tool to be discarded .f**k I’m sounding like an amateur ?.

Not looking for an argument because I think it’s an interesting topic of conversation but your “dog for life, pet home” for working dogs is probably a lot to do with how hard it is to find decent stuff……in reality, they should be gone.

But I totally get people like their pets, I do, I have a couple of pets myself…..mongrels, both had their bits out so they can never breed.

And I don’t think discarded is the right word, I think of it more as a responsibility.

Would you accept having to work 3 terriers in a earth to dig a single fox?  Didn't think so, similar thing with lurchers.
