So you’re saying that the impacts of alcohol have nothing whatsoever to do with the result of it as a substance ? The fact that is it alcoholic and gets folk drunk ? That factor has zero to do with its impact ?

I don’t know about you mate but I don’t have many kids sniffing my clothes. In fact I would imagine I go most days without being 50 yards from a child.

So how many people drink drive after a couple of drinks, how many people beat up their wife after a drink?

Wait until you have kids of your own, you will be well within 50 yards I assure you.

When you do hold your baby, just think about all those wonderful poisons it will be inhaling when you are cuddling it.

Ban the horrible thing!

That’s fine and it would be my choice to give up smoking if I had a child in the house.

With regards to the statistics on domestic violence and drink driving - it happens every single day doesn’t it.

Yes it would, but many people still choose to continue smoking and possibly harming their kids.

I agree it does, but that doesn't excuse smoking IMO and shouldn't be part of the debate as it's a completely different matter.

Like most of these things, there’s bigger and more important stuff that needs tackling other than a vice that don’t really have a wider impact on society really.

As I said, smoking does not alter your mental state in a way that makes it dangerous to operate machinery or makes you want to give the old woman the Mike Tyson treatment.

Nobody is dealing Bensons out of a crack den and nobody is letting a dirty old man f**k them down an ally because they are in desperate need of 20 Superkings

In relation to most things, fags really are a harmless vice…..not completely but almost completely.

Will you outwinter all those cattle and let them just graze the bales mate ?

My wife’s friend is a specialist social worker in New Zealand, she works in the Maori community specifically with child murderers and rapists and also child victims of that type of stuff…..some of it is truly howling !

Imho, the funding that will have to be used to implement such a ban would be better spent in sectors like that I describe above.

Like all things, we always have to look at politicians and their policy’s and decide what’s practical and what’s PR

The cost of smoking to the UK Government is approximately £12.6 billion a year, made up of £1.4 billion spent on social care for smoking related care needs, £2.5 billion spent on NHS services and £8.6 billion of lost productivity in businesses.

Every year around 78,000 people in the UK die from smoking, with many more living with debilitating smoking-related illnesses. Smoking increases your risk of developing more than 50 serious health conditions.

on top of this you have the cost of policing the import of illegal and sometimes dangerous fags/bacci and then the fact smoking is probably the biggest gateway drug in the world .... not really a harmless vice is it

At this farm we have about 400 cattle in the sheds and about 140 outside. The ones outside will I hope stay out all winter. Split into two mobs of about 70-80 cattle they get 20 bales at W time, which last about four days, with the bit of stuff they can still pick at that’s in the field two. They are arable fields so the idea is maximum muck going onto them. The cattle seem happy enough!

Out of curiosity would you support a ban on cars that do more than 70mph, alcohol, high sugar and high fat foods and energy drinks etc ? Or is it just specifically smoking ?
