Ummm where in that did I say he was a one off ? Or anything about my old dog ? I’m just asking if anyone has a dog that fits the above description I can use to line a bitch in the future ?

I don’t move in whippet circles and so I don’t see many working whippets and certainly don’t see any working regular (not that they don’t I just don’t know anyone with one).

I am just saying I’m after a well put together whippet, height isn’t over important but I want it relatively thick set and the type who will pile straight into a fox without a second thought and which you’d happily slip on deer, regardless of whether he would catch it or just get dragged across a field, as long as it will run straight in and grab hold at the first opportunity.

Im after one which is well mannered abs soft with people but a bit of a liability to themselves.

Which, given how you suggest that this is a very common trait, someone should be right along saying they have such a beast very soon?

Ps not being a dick

After u on the left sir ,if its not 2 much bother ?

Right, my apologies for my inaccurate supposition.  ?.

 SheepChaser..

You are right to be looking for that type...?

I've kept both styles of contemporary whippet, and after much deliberation , I would have to favour the KC variety..

Now, to my old racing pals, this is an incredulous and somewhat baffling choice?

The purpose-bred, specialist racing whippet,..a creature that I originally named a 'hard-Blood' whippet (much to my old friend, the late Ted Walsh's chagrin !) This fabulous canine has been created by breeding the best to the best over many decades...It is a judicious, ancient blend, of Greyhound, Staffy and of course, the available whippets..

From the earliest times right up to the present, it has been refined and honed to perfection, to complete that 150 yard dash in the fastest possibly time...  As a purpose-bred animal, it is nie-on canine perfection... ?

Due to its Greyhound ancestor, that muscular frame, length of back and determined prey drive, also allows it to enhance (and sometime improve) a hare coursing style of lurcher...in short, this beautiful hybrid would seem to have it all?

However,.having used some of the best racing blood over my own pastoral lurchers, their biggest downfall has always been those incredibly fast feet....the race dog has been created to carry no waste flesh and is perfect for sheer speed....

In comparison, the other type, the pure -bred, KC whippet can sometimes be a tad on the thin side and can often exhibit that roach back and nippy physique that we are all familiar with....I do not like that look...

By the same token, there is a type that is colloquially known as a Working Whippet, still apparently pedigree, KC registered,..but totally different in its demeanour and overall physique.

I've hunted with these types and they are the boyos for the bush-busting and down and dirty , roustabout rabbit work...

Quite where you would find one, I don't know,.but we live in a tiny country, so when I need one myself, I am sure such a powerful, barrel chested critter will be sourced...

Of course, as in ALL things lurcher wise, this is only an opinion, and I could well be wrong....?
