It’s been frosty the last couple of mornings, it’s very welcome , hopefully it will kill a few bugs . Unfortunately the Maize and cover crops don’t like it and they will soon be unviable as a drive .

Back out today for a late afternoon deer ramble, this time with longshanx, we walked the same path as I did with Foxhunter last weekend, after a walk along the bottom with the light fading we headed back towards the wood. As we came into the field before the wood and rounded the corner there was 3 roe the other side of the beck on next doors land, the only one that presented a half shot was a buck, so he’ll have to wait, we got to the wood side and waited until last light but nothing else showed, still a nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I’ve never really been into deer, only taking them if someone asks me for one, but I’m really starting to enjoy an afternoon walk out, looking for them ?

Have u tried a buttolo call Stav ,its early for the rut but some bucks can be very aggressive.

It may draw them closer and give you the edge needed?

1st April isn't far away and Longshanks needs some more practice with his butchery ?

Last night I went up the Dale's to do a bit of rabbit control. It was dark and breezy so thought I would have a good night. Straight from the off though it was obvious it was going to be challenging,  nothing liked the lamp and were on their toes. This meant for rangey shots and also quick snap shooting, having to follow them moving and if they stopped for a split second having to shoot. It was challenging and frustrating at the same time.  Ended up with a decent bag considering ? Rabbits will be left to breed now and start shooting them again on Summer evenings.

Pity you didnt get onto one,  you need the deer magnet ??

You need to change your name the deermagnet, 100% record on the roe, we have only been twice but I’ll take 2 for 2 ?

I’ve never used it myself, but have been out with people using it

the only time I’ve used it was on the digital caller, it’s worked a few times drawing a ginger from a deep wood

definitely have to get the long one some more to practice on, everyone’s after a free feed now, my mate had his loins last night and said it was one of the nicest things he’s ever eaten, it helps that his missus learned to cook from her dad, who is a chef ( he’s a lucky bugger, I’d love it if my missus could cook )

I

No point in using the Buttolo , save it for the rut. No need anyway as the bucks are very active in April and May marking their territories , you will find them wandering about no problem. Cant wait ?

I mentioned that to him the other day, I think he wants to do a few more roe first ? I’ve never done a fallow, the last one I shot the lad I was out with did all the proper work, they are a big beast
