Watched a really sad and moving programme last night on child poverty in the UK.

It was presented by that musician Professor Green and I have to say he was an amazing presenter of this subject.

It found it very emotional, it’s absolutely disgusting that in 21st century Britain (or anywhere in Europe) that kids and families are having to live like that.

We take so much for granted and these poor little b*****ds have nothing.

If anyone can find it, watch it, when kids are having to live that way then something is badly broken.

Heartbreaking !

maybe if there parents layed off the marching powder and booze  ,they could aford to feed there kids

I don't know what your history is gnasher, but I have seen and dealt with people who just do not conform to the theory that they can be educated or lead out of poverty. They are born takers (or users) and will exploit anything that they perceive to be a weakness in charitable help. I've been in houses where the Father has spent hundreds on cannabis production whilst the kids existed in less than squalor. I've seen addicts and alcoholics making demands to Social Services for extra payments supposedly for the children's welfare and then blow all the money on their addiction. There is a different world out there and the root cause is that some people simply cannot be trusted to look after a pet rat let alone a child.

As for Wilf's post; If birth rates are going down and child poverty is going up; you claim that tax is the reason. Where are your facts to back that up? The UK tax rate is amongst the lowest in the civilised world and on par with France, Germany and other Western countries despite the UK being just about the only one with free health care. It isn't tax that causes child poverty. It is people not equipped to bring up children having children.

The UK tax rate is a fair bit lower than the leading EU states like Germany and France, by the way both have state funded healthcare and Germany especially is showing us how things should be done.

So what are you saying then mate wipe our hands of societies losers ?.....i mean thats a fairly steep drop from the old bulldog spirit of the generation before ours isnt it ?

All we're constantly told about how brave and ferocious society was during and after war years.,how with great courage and fortitude British bulldog spirit saw everyone stick together..............to a " f**k em " attitude a generation or two down the line.....doesnt bode too well for the " changes " we,ve seen in our country over the last 30/40 years does it.

Alas the above aptly demonstrates that without the intelligence to debate or evidence to support one's supposition one is only left with insult. ?

The UK, Germany and France have the same rate of tax:  https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/personal-income-tax-rate

France does not have a state funded health service like the UK does. You get basic cover out of your taxes then have to pay extra top ups if you want better treatment. The basic treatment does not pay for cosmetic stuff like you can get in the UK and you are at the back of the queue when it comes to things like knee replacements. Quite often patients get bills because the basic cover does not cover costs of the treatment required. First thing they ask for when you check in is your private insurance cover.

Gnasher,  Basically - yes. There is an element of society that does not fit into society as we know it. Today isn't 1939. They aren't ever going  to contribute and they will forever be taking from the State purse. As will their kids, and their kids.............

No way. The immigration system is a disgrace. But, hopefully if Boris carries out his promise of opting out of the ECHR it will be a lot easier to repatriate failed asylum seekers. Then, once it dawns on the liberals that the country cannot afford to house all the world's poor they might stop inviting some of them in.

So we,ve gone from bulldog spirit to useless ponces in a generation.....a generation that has seen us import the third world......just coincidence i guess.

Diversity is just wonderful dont you think.
