polonose00 21
anyone got any unusual commands they use just to make life easier not just for coursing? ill start it off with one im working on with the pup now, "open"(mouth) and for a hand signal i do the one people do for like blah blah blah. iv got a terrier with epilepsy so she needs a half tablet morning and night but ever since i got the lurcher pup she thinks she is missing out on some kind of treat every morning and night so she is dieing to get at the tablets i couldnt just put in the food or push it down the terriers throat cos she is a bugger for hiding it in the lips, gums and beard. and itll en up on the floor then quick as flash in the pups tummy. so when i got the pup, the terrier had to learn that command but i can see it coming in handy for any medication the pup may need later in life Quote Link to post

Welsh_red 4,896
My dad has a command for his collie. It's of no actual use but finds it funny when new guests come around If my dad does this To the collie she runs around jumping on and off everybody's lap like a lunatic . When you catch his start doing it you protect your crotch instantly 2 Quote Link to post

dytkos 17,896
My pack all understand "gone" which means, leave that scent, game of ball is over, squirrell has disappeared etc etc. They also know "Back" which means we turn round and go back the way we came. Can't say they understand/obey much else though Cheers, D. 1 Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
With pack caught rabbits I say 'mine' and they all let go: obviously I only say it once I've got hold of the rabbit myself. 'Under' and 'over' obstacles: saves daft dogs trying to jump stuff laced with loose wire on the top. I also say 'it's gone' if they haven't seen a rabbit come out of cover and are still looking for it. 1 Quote Link to post

Str 793
This was my cocker searching for wounded ducks in a flooded field, when ducks are wounded they will dive on water which makes them very difficult to find,I learnt him this by chucking dummy's in clear shallow water,at first he would look at me for a command and I would just encourage him buy saying get ya daft fxxking head in the water and it just clicked. 3 Quote Link to post

mushroom 13,711
Wee wees, speak, jump (straight up), get on... plus all the normals (sit, stay, down, fetch, leave etc) The only one out of all of those commands this prick understands and obeys..... is wee wees ffs ? I had a staff that could find almost anything you wanted and retrieve it to your hand just by naming It, be it rabbit, keys or remote control and she was always listening. Once told my ex I had a couple of rabbits outside next to the door waiting to be cleaned, the dog flys outside to retrieve one into the kitchen to hand. Miss that little star! 1 Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
Daily exercise/mooching about with more than one dog doesn't mean to say that each dog isn't or can't be worked individually either ferreting, lamping or, in the old days, coursing. Taking a group of dogs out together is just a good way to keep them occupied and reasonably fit as far as I'm concerned. 3 1 Quote Link to post
