mackem 29,518
Disabled French girl fighting for life after rats swarm all over her in bed A disabled French girl is fighting for life in hospital after rats swarmed into her bedroom and bit her. The 14-year-old paraplegic, named Samantha, was sleeping on the ground floor of a rented house in Roubaix when she was attacked. Her father found her “drenched in blood” in her medical bed last Saturday, according to local media. She suffered 45 facial lesions, 150 on her hands and 30 on her feet in the horrific incident, a medical expert has said. A forensic pathologist confirmed the injuries were caused by a “pack of rats.” The girl’s father is suing the landlord for alleged negligence. According to reports, rubbish bins nearby were overflowing. "There was blood coming from her ears - I was terrified that she might have had a brain haemorrhage," He said some of the girl’s fingertips had been bitten off surgeons cannot repair them. While police investigate the attack, the family have been moved to a different house. Such attacks on humans are rare, but rats are sometimes known to feed on corpses. Advertisement The hospital has run tests on the teenager for possible infections, including rabies. The rabies test was negative.

ChrisJones 7,975
They say it's rare. It isn't. In fact, it's increasing in frequency. If you look at the amount of food dumped on the streets, and the lack of funding/training/competence of the local authority I genuinely wonder how many rats people need to see before they start controlling them properly. Maybe an outbreak of plague would do it? Edit For Clarity: It IS rare but it's increasing in frequency. Edited September 10, 2017 by ChrisJones
scothunter 12,609
With all these cutbacks in public services mainly bin collections to once a fortnight and talk of monthly collections i expect to see rats having a field day. Some households can fill a bin in a week. Yea slash public services to the bare minimum, but f**k all changes with politicians perks and expenses.

Combine it with the increase in take away food establishments, and the amount of waste literally thrown on the floor at the time, when the pubs and clubs shut. Certainly ups their odds of survival. MOLE265 792
Well apparently we are all living a lot longer, another plague would help the establishment balance the books. Well they've already moved the goalposts twice I mean the retirement age twice, you pay into the system all your working life retire but don't live too long because we can't afford to give back all the money you've paid in. Why. Because we're to busy giving North Korea £4,000000 etc etc etc.

Daniel cain 48,127
Fishing the river with my lad last season, he was fast asleep in the bivvy, I reeled in my rods for the night, I got into the bivvy and there was a f***ing rat Sat on the lads sleeping bag up on the bed chair cleaning its face! This season I take a dog with me not seen one. They come in for a few spilt pellets, I always have our grub up off the floor. I seen them at almost plague numbers when out ratting and they are very bold when foods around, kill a load, loads escape, go back half hr later they back out, repeat the cycle... One of nature's survivors that's for sure.

We can fill a single bin in a couple of days here,we have 2 but it's still not enough for a fortnight,so I'm at the tip at least once a week anyway. I'd rather just not pay council tax and not get the privilege of using their shitty services.

DIDO.1 22,856
I think the biggest issue is local authorities not baiting sewers regularly. Also migrants that have a greater tolerance for pests then we would, poor language skills to communicate the issue and not wanting to pay for proper control. As sewer based infestations increase alot of pest controllers don't have the knowledge or interest to investigate them... especially council pest controllers.
