Yea defo getting a good sleeping bag and hadn't eventhought about a bivvy bag until socks mentioned it. Mountain wwarehouse do them for a score.

tbh i just take water from the mountains around here. Never thought about filtering it lol

My understanding is you shouldn't need to filter or boil if you're above the grazing line. Never bothered when high up fell hunting or up a mountain. Too risky otherwise.

Don't forget to drill holes in your toothbrush... to save weight...

They don't have flares in Scotland, only traccy bottoms ! Lol

Ziplock or even bin bags work fine, but a submersion bag/dry bag doesn't cost the earth and you're not gonna accidentally tear it.   I have a Ferro rod on my keys, again just a few quid but it's a goo

Another bit of advice I would give you is be a nerd packing your kit.....same things in the same places in your rucksack every time so you can go right to them even in the pitch dark.

As you use things, put them back in exactly the same place every time......don't "do it in a minute"......sounds a bit mental but beleive me it don't half make life easy.

Messy discipline around your camp and kit can lead to some real pain in the arse situations.

Lots of dry bags too, they are cheap and so useful. Better than zip locks I think and only slightly heavier. I'd avoid the kountain warehouse bivvy bags, get the army surplus ones off eBay. Genuine goretex and hardy as f**k. I would personally filter the water, puritabs make tea grim and just relying on being high up is ok until something has died a bit further up. I had a serious case of bad guts on a trip to masaii land and it nearly ruined the trip and definitely wasted a few days. Ever since I've been wary. The wilderness is a shit place to have the runs!

I'd buy your dry bags from somewhere that sells playboats/kayaks they are the best I've used. Handy to have a few filtration straws weigh next to nothing, firestick and striker, signal whistle I wouldn't be with out just in case, and some flares. Atb dc

Yea socks ordered 3 dry bags from amazon and a compression bag. Might get another one for my jacket.

Don't go wasting money on expensive bags mate ... a normal plastic zip lock bag will do just fine ... it's all I ever used in the army and I never had wet clothes ... depending on how much kit your carrying it's always a good idea to learn how to compress fold your clothes so it takes up no room ......
