Don't forget to drill holes in your toothbrush... to save weight...

They don't have flares in Scotland, only traccy bottoms ! Lol

Ziplock or even bin bags work fine, but a submersion bag/dry bag doesn't cost the earth and you're not gonna accidentally tear it.   I have a Ferro rod on my keys, again just a few quid but it's a goo

I did quite alot of backpacking round nz ladt year and these are the tjings i wouldnt be without. Good quality down sleeping bag (buy one that goes way lower than you expect to camp in), goretex bivvy bag, thermarest prolite or equivalent, decent head torch and the thing I really valued was a water filter, can't remember the name but it was a little tube that screwed onto top of a standard water bottle. It was a godsend being able to drink from anywhere and not lug water around or have to boil it

Cotton balls soaked in vaseline are good to kick of a fire.

000 grade wire wool is also excellent
Or dryer lint/fluff plus it's free.

Cut up a bicycle inner tube into little pieces it will burn easily even when it's wet
