Blackbriar 8,569
Anyone here do this, interested in it or attend events ? By way of a long story that I won't go into, I spent part of the weekend with a friend, who was taking part in a Medieval Festival. It's not something that has interested me, but I have to say it was both fascinating and educating ! There were people from various re-enactment groups (Civil War, Crusades etc) and I was particularly interested in the weaponry they all had on display - swords of every kind, pikes, axes, hammers - and all of them absolutely brutal ! I lost count how many times I thought "You wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of THAT !" Also had a go with a long bow - amazing weapon ! To be honest, I could get into it, if I was a bit younger !! Anyone else have an interest in this kind of thing ?
ollieollie 766
Dont know much about it but me and my dogs have wondered into the middle of a few battles, they do it every other saturday morning where i walk, they take it very seriously but appear to be enjoying it, fair play to them, whatever floats your boat
beast 1,884
I took the kids to a civil war reenactment last summer it was actually great. They had a whole camp like a village set up and I found it fascinating. The actual battle was noisy intense and quite realistic about 500 soldiers copying the original battle
Lenmcharristar 10,363
what im seeing on tv now in brussels, just like how i grew up, police everywhere, check points and bomb disposal.
Blackbriar 8,569
A real eye opener was the Claymore. We've all seen Mel Gibson, fencing like a musketeer with one,in 'Braveheart'. Well, they had a replica from the Wallace collection - I could barely pick the bloody thing up ! It make you realise how brutal and intense warfare must have been - one guy said to me that, if we fought wars like this today, we might be so eager to do it !

ChrisJones 7,975
There is something a bit Star Wars about it though isn't there..... I was slated to do a reenactment of Ernest Hemingway's Old Man And The Sea... I was supposed to be Hemingway but I got into character by getting blackout drunk on gin and tonics... They never asked me back.
leegreen 2,255
I bought a couple of WW1 German close combat mases other than that I think they are weirdo's. I mean grown men dressing up, playing war, come on!
C556 351
It's quite a difference seeing a longsword used properly compared with the random swinging around you get on TV. The training and dedication involved is similar to any other martial art you spend years doing.
Qbgrey 4,386
at the war and peace you got all countries uniforms, marching about,in cafes, bars doing stuff, and at night they all get drunk and ive heard a few punch ups haha
neems 2,406
No,I just stick to playin cowboys and Indians in my back garden. It's less embarrassing . Though I seen a load the other day who all spoke old french so they could pretend to be Normans, they were marching around singing songs about famous battles (apparently). Imagine if they spent that time and energy doing something productive!
