roybo 2,873
I don't understand the 90% wastage thing ,by using a greyhound,I'd have thought the wastage comes from the other side especially if breeding 1/2 crosses 3 Quote Link to post

jukel123 9,064
If you do decide to breed, the fact that your greyhound works would be a huge plus when homing pups. Lots of former racing greyhounds are given to lurcher breeders which could have all sorts of problems: fighters, non chasers, prone to injuries etc. Your bitch must be a robust type and may pass on that robustness to her pups. 1 Quote Link to post

Ive yet to see a litter of pups bred out of a greyhound dam that could live with a litter bred from a proper lurcher dam.I find breeding from a Greyhound is the easy option all of the time. Why breed from a Greyhound Dam?,Why?.Name anything that a Greyhound Dam offers that a lurcher dam cannot offer 2,3 or 4 fold.If you wish to produce an even litter of saleable pups go with the easy option,if you wish to produce productive working progeny then shoot every mutt thats better equipped to track and less field work.Ill guarantee that there will be many a useful mutt out there Greyhound Dam bred,FACT,ill better guarantee that the vast majority with a Lurcher Dam will fare a damn sight better most of the time and not just some of the time. bigjase1 159
That's a bold statement bud cause 99% of lurchers come from the greyhound weather it's collie greyhound to collie greyhound (lurcher to lurcher ) it's a half and half if it bed grey cross collie grey it's half grey so on and so on the fact the lurcher is crossed with hound takes away your theory Quote Link to post

bigjase1 159
But the greyhound is the fondation of the lurcher 1 Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
But the greyhound is the fondation of the lurcher Totally agree mucker, flour is the foundation of the best Gateau, yet the chocolate, cherries, cream and sugar is the Gateau and is responsible for its appeal, flour is flour,it aids the mix,it never responsible for the taste. billhardy 2,343
I have bred from greys taken has six week old Welps and done well in the field for a grey ,the progeny from a grey and a lurcher with bags and bags and bags of running nouse stamina robustness nose etc all that's needed for a serviceable lurcher .guess what all but the speed the main qualities were lost stamina gone the grey had more than her Welps the ability to stay sound gone and so on not one got past there second season culled or injured.the reason I mentioned if it's a grey ones style likes replace with like when X see be a a start then and going back three paces to one foreword.that be my thoughts and experience of a grey .atb bunnys.
