Subsistence Lifestyle Could You ???

Recommended Posts

Love life below zero,,,

But there's only one on that program that truly lives like you say,,,and that's that glen fella,,,,the one that always seems to be naked,,,lol. He doesn't even have anything mechanical ,,apart from traps and guns,,,,he don't even have a chainsaw..

All the others,,have the net ect,,,

But I get what your saying,,it would be some adventure that for sure,,,I would love to go on that island program ,,,the way they struggle with everything...

Last one that was on,,they eventually caught a pig,,,by chasing it round,,,surly they could have built a live trap similar to a fox trap,,,just made of poles cut from the Forrest and lashed together,,,bit of bait in the end..

And not just one trap,,,but many,,,,another thing,,,night lines,,,length of rope with loads of hooks baited ,,,they could make hooks out of the tin cans they find....

There's always a net on that island,,,,if it don't catch,,,Move it regular,,,,or perhaps try to scare or Hurd the fish in to the net,,,seen that on a program about native folk somwhere or other,,,,,or even tie biat to the net,,,think outside the box...

Deadfall traps for seagulls,, two big flat heavy rocks,,bit of fish head,,,again not just one trap ,,but many...

There shelter is always shit,,,they should be cutting loads of poles from the forest...

Feck me I seen a fella on YouTube build a house with a tiled roof just from poles and clay,,,,ok I might be able to go that far,,,but you could easily get the poles...

Going on a bit now I am ,,lol

He is one fit fukcer that lad ...,have you seen him running over them mountains and breaking trails in knee deep snow ... Glen is the man .........

Think its a great Idea and something I'd like to do for a week or two to get away from everything but not as a lifestyle You could learn to really use your practical living skills properly   Troubl

I live in a cabin I built myself, no telly and probably % meat or fish I eat I caught. Got hens and now some sheep. Not really subsistence as I work but I try, can't be doing with the veggies etc thou

But how would we get on thl without the internet?

I did it years ago, didnt have powder white snow as i hate the cold,i had powder white sand, still got the place, but its not the idyl people think, and i had a few quid tucked away for hard times because you just never know.Life below zero, well, they arent subsistance, check their net worth sometime, sue is worth a few quid, equally the chipchase family are while not exactly well heeled arent short of a bob or two,and they all get decent wedge for each episode of the program glen is the one who seems to do it for personal reasons as he leaves his family for extended periods to live in solitude.

Theres another similar program Yukon Men,they live a hunting fishing trapping type of existance but it all looks far to grim, given the chance i would rather live a Swamp People sort of existance, gator hunting and snapper turtle trapping, looks a lot more fun, byron tou must have a tale to tell about that, how did you end up with so little cash for so long a time?

I like the idea of walking out of my door to see snow capped mountains and having no neighbours for 40 miles in any direction but the reality is I'm too lazy for a life like that.

I warched a you tube video yesterday were a family lived out in the Russian wilderness and seen nobody for 40 years... now that's out in the sticks

I think I've read about that family,,,or seen somthing....

There was some jap soldiers left on in island after ww2,,,somwhere in the Pacific ,,,,they wouldn't surrender,,,started with 5-6 but eventually after around 30 years I think there was just one. ,,the japs tried many times to get them but they kept thinking it was a ploy by the enemy ,,,,in the end the father of one of them went there,,,and he eventually surrendered ,,,I'm sure it was the 70,s by then,,,,,you got to admire there determination

I'd love to do it but it would have to be with a bunch of people. Imo you won't get far with just yourself or the Mrs.

A lot of those sort of programs its community, everyone knows or is related to each other, but it also depends on your mindset, adaptability, and skills, that guy with the sled dogs Andy,he moved to alaska from washington because he wanted the lifestyle,he built the camp and made the move alone or with just his woman i think?
