I have a distinct memory of Bombardier Billy Wells single handedly charging German trenches. He was depicted as a giant of a man with  fair wavy hair and a desperate Dan chin. Or maybe I'm hallucinating.

I googled whether he had ever featured in a comic strip. I was hallucinating.

But several cards came up. I must have been thinking of them.

I liked The Wolf Of Kabul, Bill Samson, and his faithful manservant Chung, with his fearsome weapon “clicky ba” .

Now you're talking. I think we all basically taught ourselves to read with the aid of comic strips. I had lots of older brothers so we go them all. I also had a kid sister so I secretly read The Bunty and The Judy as well. I loved the problem page and learned about menstruation and heavy petting. Never forgotten it.

There used to be a docker who lived next door to us. He used to buy comics and give them to me when he had read them.

One day I went to collect my second hand comics and his Mrs said he was on the outside toilet. So I politely knocked on the shithouse door and asked " are you finished with the comics Mr Walsh?  He replied "not quite, I'm just finishing." So I leant against the wall till I heard him flush the toilet. He emerged pulling his braces up and said " here you go sunshine"and gave me the latest edition of The Hotspur and The Lion.

There’s a lad I know who has had a succession of top class non-ped scratch dogs, all named after comic characters; Lord Snooty, Colonel Clott, Dennis the Menace, Gnasher, etc.

He must have liked his comics ! LOL !

I used to by my grandkids comics but I realised I was being boringly uncool. They never even opened the pages. Comics v Internet. No contest.

Genuine super fight at the weekend. Hard to bet against either man. Alvarez is the warrior's warrior and Crawford just superb. It's one for the history books whatever the result.

I'm can't believe Parker and Itauma is on the cards. Normally Itauma, being a comparative youngster,  wouldn't  be matched against an experienced pro like Parker, but it looks like it's happening.
