lurcherman 887 13,425
In the past ive been lucky enough to work only few days a week but things have changed and im now doing 40 plus hours a week and finding it harder and harder to get the muts out as its dark when i leave and dark when i return im sure a quick walk around the block isnt enough well i know it isnt .. Ive seen a spaniel x id like to add to my pack just think its not right to own another knowing i dont have much time for the 2 i already have .. Surely its not only me who works all week so lads who have more than 2 dogs whats your routine so to speak just short walks of the evening and out all weekend? Obviusly lamping is diffrent because i just stay out till 3 ish then up for work at 6 .. But then im summer can get out for better walks as its dark later i know ive answered me own question there lol just want to get some input to what others do
marshman 7,758
I work 6 days a work recently and long hours as well so fitting the dogs in is hard I know. So what I do is I'm up and out with them before I go to work then back home. Then Mrs marshman walks then to to meet my daughter from the bus in the afternoon. Then when I get home I'm usually bollocked by then I put them on a treadmill for a few Mile in the garage while I have a brew . That's it until Sunday for a bit of graft , sometimes when work eases up a bit ill get out a bit more !

Bosun11 537
First off, dont keep any more than you have time for! Routine is key, morning walk, evening walk and more time spent with em when you have it. Right now it probably feels like you have a spare minute but you'll find, once you settle into full time work, that you have more time than you thought. Also, try to think outside the box a bit, maybe go to bed early and get up for a lamp before you leave for work etc.
lukey 1,621
Dogs, full time work and a few young kids, now that is hard! Even worse when you are having to travel a bit to get to jobs ??
Lab 10,979
In the same boat since starting fencing full time. 5/6 days a week, away early and home late usually. Dogs not getting enough. Luckily for me I stay on a little small holding and the lassie that has her horses here takes them out if she is going for a hack. Any days I'm home early I like to give them a decent walk though.
neems 2,406
I get mine out with the bike in the morning if it's not too icy,if not just a walk, then either a run or walk of a night. I miss just having a normal, biddable dog that I can let have a run off lead at night without worrying about it fecking off.

Dig-deep-draw-charlie 2,713
This is where I am lucky, I am a full time doorman, but days I start at 5 so if I am out I have to be fished up by 2 to get home and sort dogs out then myself, but as it has been said mate, routine, u will fall into routine soon. Poacherspocket 189
Working shifts great for me nights after then morning. On afters i lamp most nights and good walks in the light before work. Mornings you get a few hours of daylight to have a good mooch but its hard to lamp when your up at 5am so i just have an hour here and there local. Nights is just for walking but good variation. kanny 21,600
I give up the dogs when I split up with the ex she was a house wife and at home all day there is still one of my terriers living with her now but she's 15 now and long past it... Me and my current wife both work full time it's hard but I just can't justify having a dog at the moment just sat around all day on its own... I don't half miss it though. spookster1 24
Why can't you walk dogs in the dark? I work full time and walk the dogs for a couple of hours when I get home, and a shorter walk before. Not sure what the problem is with the dark?
Wales1234 5,681
From novemeber - end of Jan I really struggle in the week to get any mooching done so I take a day off a week to get them out tidy and Saturday and Sunday plus a lamping trip their pretty happy light nights we get out for 3/4 hours and night not hunting just generally mooching
Bosun11 537
Most winter months the dogs will only get out in the dark, mornings and evenings. I used to work shifts, which were great but now it's Mon-Fri daytime. So the dogs fit around that, i just make the most of weekend daylight and the coming of spring. A 40hr week is the same if its week days or shifts, with the same time off. Your dogs dont give a feck if its light or dark and neither should you, its the time spent that matters...! bob84 189
I have 3 young kids and 4 dogs it ain't easy with football dance classes hurling soccer and spending time with the youngest one its all about balance and having an understanding wife helps she helps when she can. I'm up at 6 in the mornings give them a quick run and back for 7 to help her with the kids and in work for 8 its around 9/ half 9 that night when I get to walk them again for and hour its all free running a good flash light helps so you don't get mowed down .
