Road Kill Deer

Allways hear it is illegal to take if you hit a deer but legal if someone else hits it. Is this true? i.e. if you hit a deer and take it could you be in bother or is it just stories? Has there been any case law on this????

I would feel better taking it if the car in front of me or I hit it If somebody else hit it and I came on it I would leave it there no saying it was killed out right and they called out a vet to euthenis it and you or what ever you feed it too could get a bad one

If it was euthanised by a vet I wouldn't of thought that the carcass would be left if I thought it was recently hit I'd that it for the hounds

I've taken one for the dogs and wouldn't really have a problem eating it myself.

Be sensible - if the guts are intact, if it looks fresh and, most of all, trust your nose....

There was a story of one being put to sleep and the carcass disappearing be for it could be collected ....they had to put a warning out ...don't eat it ffs...or something like that. Edited January 27, 2016 by kanny

I know a fella that hit one and was gona put it in the back coz the boot was full but his mrs wouldnt let him so he put the stuff out the in the back seat and put the deer in the boot lucky for him coz the deer came to and went ape in the boot. A fella told me if you hit and kill a deer the person in the car behind owns it

The person who's land its on owns it , so if its on the road it'll be the councils

I once saw a horse fed to hounds that had been needled and it just gave em really bad shits.

I've had a fair few of them off the roads, always ones that look less than a day old. Never caused any problems.

I've never found a road killed one without its guts burst though.

Every deer I've ever had is road kill,,,,,,pre ban ,,,lol
