lukey 1,621
Me and 5 other old mates (brother) will be rowing the channel for charity in October, from Ramsgate to Nieupoort (Belgium). It's approx 55 miles (dependant on tides etc).... so the usual January health kick has a bit more meaning this year. I've jumped in headlong, I enjoy training anyway, been running a bit lots of swimming and rowing machine etc... Kicked the booze (only a social drinker any way so that wont hurt), eating sensibly...... but the worse thing is I've cut out sugar (as much as possible). Would have 2 in tea or coffee, bars of chocolate, biscuits etc... now I have none in tea which means I hardly drink it cause it tastes like shit, haven't had a chocolate bar for nearly 3 weeks (I'm like a junkie with my cravings lol)... But I'm feeling better already, more awake, kids are doing it too, Fin done 30 lengths of the pool one night last week and 25 a couple of nights later, all have come out running with me. As soon a I reach Belgium in October I'm having a giant bar of chocolate to myself lol Apart from the sugar chocolate ect how was your diet before breakfast lunch dinner ect? neems 2,406
that's a great way to start the new year, you won't turn your back on a commitment like that. Not like all the fatties who swarm to the gym this time every year...and stick it out all the way to February.

Never used to eat breakfast, would grab lunch on the run but ate OK for dinner. Don't eat processed food etc, but wouldn't say I hate the healthiest way either. Eating porridge with honey for breakfast, small lunch, lots of fruit, raw veg etc then a really healthy tea now.. always prepared fresh.
NEWKID 29,317
Why don't you just row to Calais.......its nearer...... Not allowed to land in France, not sure why but thats the rules, we're going accross with a professional company, with a safety boat. The distance with tides is approx 64 miles but they have to tow you through the french shipping lane, so yo end up doing around 55 miles of rowing, the last group of lads that we know who did it took 14 hours, we'll try and beat that (not competetive at all!!! lol)

Always enjoyed training mate, got out of the habit the last couple of years with my work really going mad just made excuses really. Really enjoying it again now, and like you say there's a big commitment to work towards which helps.
