I know all about the squaddies socks as you know.

Like many I know a few people so depressed they took their own lives. I can't tell you what was going on in their heads when they done it but I'm fairly sure that their lack of fame and fortune wasn't a factor. Issues like drug/drink addiction, family & relationships problems did appear to be problems that they struggled with. Issues that can affect anyone..., even rich ex sportsmen.

I think that theyre just prone to it and whether they turned a boxer or binman they would have been depressive on the other hand being a depressed millionaire still beats being depressed and skint

Theres certainly some bizarre outlooks folk have towards money ....since when have wealthy people been immune from mental illness any more than being immune from cancer

 

Sports people are like anyone else who has invested a large part of their life into something that is then taken away.....made worse by a naturally competetive edge the void has to be filled

There is no point treating a depressed person as though they were just feeling sad, saying, 'There now, hang on, you'll get over it.' Sadness is more or less like a head cold........with patience,and a Lemsip it passes. Depression is like cancer,.....it kills.

And a few million in the bank would at least give the rich sports men or women a chance to fill that void.

As in opening a training school of there chosen sport.or traveling the world.

Surely the poor folk can't afford feck all just stuck somewhere with not much outlook.so yea money plays a massive part in folks lives.

I have just watched a documentary with Clark Carlisle about depression after sportsman finish there careers players like Lee Henry Liam McKenzie who works in his dads gym but there's been others to like gazza frank Bruno and some others who have taken there lives like Gary speed rip for all the money in sports do they do enough when sportsmen finish there careers or for youngsters who don't make it I know depression affects all walks of life but the pressure on sport men or women must be unbearable at times with the media

 

These days Leon Mckenzie is following in his father and uncles footsteps as a pro Boxer...7-0 and on route for a shot at the British Title...he was having 'problems' at the height of his football career...same as Bruno who is diagnosed with bi-polar disorder...it wasnt so much the finishing of the career...but the fact they had already had some mental health problems going on...must be f***ing scary having mental health problems whatever job you do

I live in surrey,average life expectancy for a man is 81,in sunderland its 76,average wage locally is around 30k,average in sunderland is 24k,as my old mate used to say money isnt everything,but it sure takes the sting out of poverty.

You don't see many sports stars living rough on the streets or topping themselves so it can't that bad ........

I said it plays a massive part in folks lives.i didn't say it's a cure.

Someone sitting in a beds sit fecking skint not even much food to eat is suffering from mental illness.they can't go far they can't even afford a proper meal.

Now if that person was a millionaire they could get out and about. eat proper.take friends or family on nice holidays buy things they consider nice of there home.even simple things like a hair cut nice clothes etc etc.

Now they are very much occupied in there lives with the means to do things rather than sit on there arse with nothing to look forward to.

So no money is not a cure but it surely fecking helps.

Every service man or woman who has ever put there lives on the line for the uk.gets not even a roof over there head lots are homeless and suffering from depression.heres were money comes into it.give them a council house and a few bob In there pockets.= they ain't sitting on the streets feeling worthless and depressed.

depression is a horrible thing to go through i had a good mate ,who had a good bussiness and family life no money worries ,just one day take himself off and hang himself,the note he left told the full story very sad
