Mountain Men

Recommended Posts

So you come home and all your rabbits are ripped apart and one of your dogs has broke off his leash and has treed the bobcat ... So you can A shoot it job done or B get a chainsaw and cut down one of the trees in your yard then let your dogs chase it up onto a mountain where they balance on a ledge whilst baying at it ... Then risk one of your dogs breaking a leg as it jumps off the ledge after the bobcat when it bolts ... And all that still doesn't guarantee that the bobcat won't come back and kill more of your livestock ..... Mmmm I wonder .....

Okay so had a quick look at Montana fish and wildlife and bobcat do have a quota, they're not classed as a predator but harvestable furbearer. Still, I doubt belting one in his yard would land him in any bother, Lol.

They're cagey around bobcats because they also have lynx and they're far more regulated by Fish & Game...

Coyote's have bounties in a lot of states. Ours is $50 and you have to hand in the scalp, with both ears, and the lower jaw. If you're good it can be a lucrative income as there aren't any quotas.

Essentially it's pest Vs game animal.

If I ever get my shit together I intend to experience some US hunting for myself. Be nice to have a crack at some predator hunting as well as game. A mountain hunt and wolf hunt probably being the pinnacle for me. The US model for conservation, whereby hunting is a major consideration, has been massively successful. It's really something that should be commended.
