Gaz_1989 9,539
I actually think its a shame and feel quite sorry in a way for someone like Peter Fury who in all fairness seems like a pretty sensible and amiable chap.......Fury has a chance of winning what was once the greatest prize in sport and like Bruno and possibly Lewis before him should be looking at becoming a much loved British sporting personality.....but instead due to the tastelessness, vulgarity and general idiocy that surrounds him he,s just a laughing stock who many people feel no allegiance to whatsoever.......much as i want him to win because he,s British thats the only reason most people want him to win which seems a shame but i guess its another drawback to not putting proven experienced people in place around you.I've followed boxing for all of my life, I remember sitting downstairs at silly hours with my dad when I was a kid listening to the radio when the likes of Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield were in the heavyweight division and I've never, ever thought about supporting a foreign boxer over a local one. Never. But I really am in 2 minds about this fight and as much as I want that heavyweight belt in the country, I really don't like this Fury fella. The only reason I want him to win, is so that I can see AJ take the belt off him. And that's sad really. Wrestled my conscience over this myself Gaz,but you know what,I hope he loses....I think hes bad for the sport, hes certainly no role model for kids etc he seems to have little respect for anything ,other than God...was on the regional news this week telling them he does not care about any one thing, other than going to heaven.Asked about wether he cared about winning the fight his response was strange....he cared that he had been given the chance he wanted....very non committal and a bit strange if Im honest If it makes me un patriotic ,so be it,I just cant reconcile his idiocy /contempt with my need for a British World Heavyweight Champ ....Im happy to wait for AJ for that,a British sportsman to be proud of Good post that fella ? fifeman 164
There was an old wrestler used to live near me back in my teens from that era, used to fight under the name of Hans Streiger and pretend to be german, real name clark mellor sadly pased away in about 2002. He was a proper old school character that used to keep deerhound type lurchers. He lived in an old railway cottage with a bit of land, kennels and dogs everywere and even an empty little open aired swimming pool. Allways had tales to tell of his wrestling days and of his beloved dogs prowness. A proper old scallywag was clark, all the neighbours scared to death of him lol. I remember watching him go to work on a punchbag and he cud still give it a fair old dig at his ripe old age, all the local dog lads new him, mad as a hatter but in a good way. They dont make em like that anymore, happy days as a kid sat swilling tea in his kitchen listening to his tails and me back then in aww of the huge ruff coated runners parading round the yard, allways wanting to own such a type.
dodger 3,591
Was thinking the other day how a lot of wrestlers have died before there time not just the big daddy era but later when the wwf was at it's peak a lot of them are dead now that ultimate warrior died this year or last year shame, to many drugs maybe.. Funny enough dodge was just having a talk about that in work today, as one ov my staffs son has just gone mad on the wrestling and we was just saying how a lot seemed to not make old bones. Does any one on hear remember Hans Streiger from the big daddy era, were men were men and wore proper lycra lol

I hate to say it Gaz...but i feel much the same about AJ...i've tried to like him but i find myself wanting to see him put on his arse just to see the look on Eddie Hearns poofhouse prema tanned face...the thing i noticed about the Johnson fight was when AJ got his man going and was teeing off with his shots and flailing away at him on the ropes...he looked wide open to a left hand counter...he struggled against southpaws in the amateurs got slapped all over the shop by a southpaw romainian...i think a big experienced switch hitter like Tyson Fury would cause him major problems...one of the things Whyte has in his armoury is a hell of a left hook... check out his first round knock down of Marcelo Nascimestor...Whyte also works well to the body and that will bring that right hand down...think Whyte will cause him some problems...Aj certainly wont walk through him like he did Cornish
