And guaranteed if it happened it would be in company lol. If you have a good dog...speak about him when hes dead. I looked like a right c*nt on a closing meet last season...its not a nice feeling especially infront of everyone but the best part about it was it was with a piss poor pack where no fecker has a clue. The right sort of terrier will stack the odds in ur favour though especially when working with hounds. Quote Link to post
strongbow 149 Posted October 4, 2015 Report Share Posted October 4, 2015 Same as cargol give and take both ways if it takes a little longer for a pup he respects that and enjoys seeing a pup get the job done just as much as I enjoy seeing young hounds enter.ive seen some huntsman talk to their terrier lads like dirt I dont think I could put up with that just to work the dogs. just because someone is a terrierman for a hunt doesn't mean he's a good terrierman. All the worse terriermen I've watched worked a dog below ground have been in the job. Saying that I've seen soon of the best also. I just take it very seriously. IMO if somethings worth doing then it's worth doing properly and once the terriers gone I try not to think about anything else. Last weekend I dug with some other lads and was able to relax as they were having the craic and slagging. But I do most of my digging on my own and maybe it's just as well as I take it far to seriously at times. As for a dog coming away ? foxbolter 447 Posted October 4, 2015 Report Share Posted October 4, 2015 Nothing wrong with having a bit of banter when you leaving the dog enough time to settle and nothing wrong with having a bit of banter when digging as long as the job is being done correct especially when braking through nothing worse seeing people running around panicking most digs only last 1 hour tops if the dog can't do two and a half something wrong different a pup half hour plenty first couple and then a bit of quiet when getting close by saying that if the pup have been socialist properly then it shouldn't get distracted but if a pup got enough drive nothing in the world would distract it 3 Quote Link to post

I believe a lot of lads dig too early and the game hasn't settled, moves again and makes the terrier look bad. Some of the places I do I'd give a terrier nearly an hour before starting. Then, when I think there's a chance of scoring I dig like fook, LOL. No stress or worries this morning though, none whatsoever. Tried a few ol' reliable's, all empty. Blanked. Ireland better beat Italy to make my day better. An Italian jockey's after winning the Arc (on an English horse) so I'm hoping that's Italy's only win today, LOL. 2 Quote Link to post
howdeeposxxt 1,448 Posted October 4, 2015 Report Share Posted October 4, 2015 (edited) Panic can lead unnecessary mistakes and its unwanted stress at a dig, level headed men is all that should be digging over terriers and the bit a craic within reason, not headless chickens.
