strongbow1 257
not sure what it's like round your way this year, but I've never seen so few rabbits! Was hoping to give my young bitch a few easy runs, take off where we left last season, but nothing local! Going to have to do some miles this season! Quote Link to post

We had a very bad Myxi outbreak two years ago & theyve never repopulatedFarmers over the moon as he hates them with a vengance. Yet on another farm where they wont let Any Dogs on only allowed to shoot we regulary get 20+ but we only go there every 6/7 wks!! Quote Link to post

mattyg 1,862
The rifle lads have hit it hard local to me so it's back to my older stomping grounds a bit further afield by the looks of things. Matt Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
Moors seem to hold them & pockets here and there.. Shooters get bad press, but there is only so many to go round.. Some greedy lad has over lamped some ground I have, through out the summer.. He's knacked it for his self,as much as me.. Having access to as much land as you can handle and the willingness to travel will produce good sport.. Sometimes aswell I think you need accept a good run of bountyful nights, could rightoff that peticular land for at least that season or worst case perminetly. Repetively going back and back, killing the odd stragglers,is just leaving no breeding stock.. If you averaged out the hours of poor lamping and mooching and decided to put the half that time, into gaining permission it would likely be more fruitful in the long run.. Some of the lads have no permission and get the numbers.. They run the risk of loosing equipment, dogs, even their liberty.. You choose the path you wish to walk.. I like having permission and the challenge of getting out and getting more land.. Quote Link to post
trigger2 3,631
i havent really been anywhere much yet because there is still alot of harvesting to be done so ive been limited to where i go. theres not huge amounts of rabbits on the gound ive done so far but ive been doing o.k. tried a fresh spot the other night and the rabbits were lamp shy to feck its the first time they have been like that in this particular spot that i know of in the last 10 years. Giro 2,648
That's frustrating when you know others are doing the land.. That's what causes wipe outs.. "Getting in there first or moping them up so they dont" . It's tough call.. Quote Link to post
peterhunter86 8,627
I haven't got any perm you don't really need it were I am there's hundreds of acres of common land that's full of rabbits The golf course and factories leave the gates open so you can go in and hunt and further up the road is farm land and they don't seem to say anything these places is walking with rabbits and it's only a five min walk from my house Quote Link to post
