The very first lurcher i ever owned,i went to buy a Border/Lakeland pup and ended up with a Deerhoundy/Collie Cur combo, cost me £17,he wanted £25.!981 and all these years later i still vividly remember its first bunny,he was 7 months old.Scratting about in an abondoned Gas works,a bunny jumped up and swiftly thrashed through the emerging saplings, followed closely by the young mutt, the bunny made its way through a broken down gate and wire closely followed by the pup,i then lost sight of the chase and as is often the case at these times never expected anything else out of the scenario,to my utter amazement the pup came trudging back with bunny in jaw,i don,t know who seemed happier me or the mutt.To this day its possibly still the most memorable and rewarding experience ive ever encountered, there have been so more since, with a multitude of jukels, yet that 1 day stands out for me more than most,i can still envisage and experience every single second of that 20 second experience with the same warmth and comfort that set me as a lurcherman, that 20 seconds earlier may have made me stick to the terrier route i was set on.
