I believe to consider run animals in wet cold conditions hrs on end night and day to deny a good warm bed ta me his poor stockman ship wet animals Cana dry put in ta kennel or bed so quickly with out

Seriously lads ? Apart from pups there is no need for artificial heat for good healthy dogs in well made weather proof kennels. A big load of codswallop to even discuss this on a working dog forum I

I use this stuff called straw,I don't know how they make it but it keeps my frail old lurcher warm at night.

Seriously lads ?

A big load of codswallop to even discuss this on a working dog forum IMO. Nothing whatsoever to do with macho bullshit or whatever, I'm being realistic.

How do you stop the water bowl freezing up in bad weather without some heat in the kennel, mine freezes solid while iam out at work all day in winter, the residual heat from the heaters stops this happening.

Put a golf ball in the water bowl ?

Or if the dogs will nick it then put a metal chain in the dog bowl, tied to the bars.

Anything to break the surface a bit will help prevent freezing.

Also you can add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to the water. It also has numerous other benefits aswell as lowering the freezing point of the water.

Would you use the kennel heater in the day anyway? Most folk just use them at night.

What does any animal that has a good warm bed to lie in but an outside run where their water is do ?

Give the dog fresh water in the evening and if it's frozen the next morning then give fresh again.

OR, if you want to take molly coddling to extremes give the dog a kettle and show it how to use it, LOL.

I'm all for giving our workers 100% of what they need to be fit and healthy so that they have the life they deserve but IMO over the top luxuries will turn dogs into lapdogs and lapdogs are not good examples of fit healthy animals.

JMHO.
