shepp 2,285
I know some people take the bible literally and live their life strictly by that.......but let's take out belief systems for a minute and whether you believe in god or not.....forget all that for a minute..... As a stand alone work, I don't think there has ever been a book on par with the bible that, if you think deeply about the passages and apply them to every day living, will bring you to a clear understanding and positive perception of mankind and how it works. It's a deeply cerebral work of litrature, IMHO unmatched by anything else. No other work comes close in describing cause and effect of human behaviour and where that leads us too. What about the bit where the girls get their father pissed and shag him. It's not even condemned in there.

Bo Duke 420
The bible is an amazing piece of literary work but to be fair there's no reason why it wouldn't be, it was compiled over 1,500 years and written by many different authors. It is full myth, tales, poetry, philosophy etc there are some very dark aspects in there too. I used to read it as a child in Sunday school and could never understand the logic of it but later on in my life I was lucky enough to see it for what it really is and throw religion away and now live my life as an anti-theist. I still admire the literature but there is much more fulfilment to be had in life when you live it for what it is, these days my bible is kept company on the bookshelf by the great works of Charles Darwin, Stephen Hawking, Cristher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins etc etc it's a lot like Plummer's work it's an alright read but shouldn't be taken literally and as long as you realise it's full of lies you can enjoy it.

I have heard it many times, drug addicts and alcoholics becoming Christians. I guess it's a secure feeling to believe someone is covering your back plus there is emotional support from other Christians.
Francie 6,368
No contradictions in the bible walshie, eye for eye was the mosiac judicial system. For the Jews, Turn the other cheek was Jesus telling us not to take revenge, but we can defend ourselves.

You know why I think that is shepp, cause there at there lowest point in life an they ask Jesus for help an he sets them free from the bondage of that particular problem.

Aww poor poor walshie, stop being so dramatic, ya big baby, you live in the back arse of Wales, who treats you like that lol I didn't mean literally bullying because god botherers are too wimpy. I meant not willing to attempt to comprehend or respect another man's views. "I'm right. You're wrong." is all i hear from you pal. Also, while i'm here, I have a serious bible question. Why is it all "verily i say unto thee" when no-one said that, as it was all in Hebrew. I understand it was translated when people DID speak like that but why isn't there a more modern translation to make it less dull?

Wimpy, don't bum herself mate, were not the ones letting this missus drive the quad, lol I would disagree with you there, I never said anyone was wrong, did me an kanny not agree anything possible, all in doing is giving a rebuttal, an my opinion, you need to get your glasses an pipe checked, lol The translation is in old English, an it was thoroughly done to a tee, an is the only translation to be trusted.
