kanny 21,136
It baffles me that it's considered crule to let a animal suffer longer than it needs to but a human is expected to cling on to the bitter end.... If there's no hope what's the point of prolonging suffering...everyone should have the option to check out imo
bird 10,013
not really sure about this one, my 85 year old father had stomach cancer , and had only 6 months to live , before he passed a way. I n that period of time, I looked after him and apart from the days he was in real pain with it, he always wanted to see his family as much as he could, meaning every bit of life he had in his body, he wanted to last as long as he could ,and even though he had long life he still wanted to see it to the end. don't get me wrong if you were on your own ,with next to nobody to care for you or love you and you, and you never get any better and were going to die, and you were quite young. well its long while to try to live like that , and some people don't want prolong agony which is fare enough, and your not a Burdon on anybody . it is personal thing for all of us, for me as long I wasn't in great pain, and had somebody who wanted to see+ be with me , then I try and stay the course .
Bosun11 537
Easy for me, if you want to go, then go but do it properly, especially for your nearest and dearest. Watching people die slowly and painfully is hell... Laws need to change and religion needs to back the feck off..!!

Blackdog92 2,047
It should be up to the individual if they think theyve had enough thats up to them.
neems 2,406
with a lot of safeguards i wouldnt oppose it,i would really hate to think a vulnerable person could be coeherced into commiting suicide legally for someone elses benefit.
day worker 296
Bosun I'm with you 100%. 10 years after my dad died it still plays on my mind!
sandymere 8,263
As above it needs safeguards to ensure its being done with a sound mind and for ethical reasons and it's the patient’s decision, with that I think the right to death is as important as the right to life.

day worker 296
Same with my dad in the end! Had full use of the driver and the doc topped him up! As said before why should a dog get a more humane death?
fireman 11,093
Larry they take their own meds where possible!yeah I watched someone dying an taking morphine and was thinking is that there to help or send them on there way Every termanly ill cancer patient is given morphine in ever increasing dosage until they die,it's said it's for pain relief but i know about opiates and how they work and i know 100% it ain't for solely pain relief and if there's any doudters then how many folk they knew that were dieing have died just after the doctor or nurse has been to give them their jabs?...
iworkwhippets 12,893
July 1964, 10 55 am, my mother and best friend passed away in agony, at home in her bed, i can still hear the screams of pain now, i was 20 at the time, i actually watched her give her last breath, if only i was as wise then as i am now
day worker 296
You're spot on fireman the doc as much as said so when he did it! My dad had reached the point when he'd had enough and got us round to tell us he was going to refuse the feeding tube! And days later it was all over and done with. We shouldn't have to go through this pain and suffering when their is a much more pain free, pleasant and dignified way to die!
fireman 11,093
I watched my mums fella waste away and die with cancer(he died 2 mns after the jab so deffo a OD),it took 18 months and as wrong as it sounds i'm glad my dad just dropped dead when he went, feck seeing that or putting your family through that and the way i look at it is,it takes time for a family to heal a bit after a death and time spent dieing would be better spent as healing time for who's left.I would rather die quick and 18 months later my kids remember me with a smile rather than having to bury me then start the healing bit from then and if any of my family really wanted out due to illness i'd do it for them and fcuk what the law thinks or says about it.
