MEN with strong upper body strength are more likely to vote conservatively while physically weaker males have a greater tendency towards left-leaning views.

And stronger men are more likely to protect their resources while weaker males favour more socialist views such as wealth distribution, researchers claim.

Psychological scientists Michael Bang Petersen of Denmark’s Aarhus University, and Daniel Sznycer of the University of California, say political motivations may have evolutionary links to physical strength.

Makes sense. People with right of centre views accept the world as a dog eat dog environment, embrace it even. In that environment any policy is only as effective as the hard power that stands behind it. Physical strength is naturally seen as admirable. In comparison with left of centre political views which tends to despise the dog eat dog competitive mentality and the use of hard power, it's easy to see how conservatives would be more likely to find superior physical ability comforting and desirable. Whether this leads to some sort of natural selection breeding physical superiority or more simply conservatives being more likely to develop their natural strength I wouldn't like to say.

 

Equally though, I guess that doesn't mean that people of left of centre politics aren't primally just as attracted to physical strength or that they don't value developing their strength. Just possibly for different reasons...
