Hi fellas thanks for the ideas , the fishing pond is only small and I'm not sure I can just make it larger as the land is rented .its probably not going to be for a couple of years atleast ,like I said it's my dad's place he goes to get away from it all and he has no interest in working the as such . I will take over sooner rather than later but while he is still enjoying it I'd rather him enjoy it than think I've pushed him out

Depends how much you need to live on.. And if you have anything to invest.

10 acres means you can have up to 10000 'free range' chickens but the shed and egg collection machinery cost a fair amount. Can't remember the figures of what you can expect to make as it's been a few years since I looked into it but it wasn't insignificant (for max amount of 16000 birds in one shed on 16 acres

If the pond is a reasonable size already look into expanding it?? I've seen those fishing ponds advertised for sale before with the adverts stating 50 odd k a year turnover. I haven't looked into it anymore than that though so don't know what you could expect to take home at the end

May be worth looking into a bank of solar panels? Not sure if power companies pay heavily for rental of land or how it works but it may also be partially subsidised by the gov?

If your just looking to good life it than 10 acres is plenty

We have 1000 (minus what the fox takes) free range chickens me old man supplys and deliver eggs himself. We have no collection equipment lol just two hours good hard graft every morning the old fashion way, we do OK out of the job.

If collecting eggs from 1000 takes 2 hours than collecting for 10000 is going to be unfeasible. I used 10k as that's the max amount for the land he has

I only suggested what I would do to get going by keeping it small you get the income with out the overheads and a good and happy living.

Out of interest what's a fair price for renting 10 acres folks? As I've just seen 10 acres advertised for rent near me ;) and budharley you have really got the old cogs going round!!! Lol I think it's just grazing land at the moment, but if I was renting it would I be able to do as wished to an extent? Like plant Christmas trees etc as it would be a long term investment obviously?

Sorry for hijacking bud ;)
