Mr Muddy 141
Belief is just lack of evidence - so why believe in anything? I’d like to think there is a god, and I do get a feeling there’s something bigger out there, but I honestly don’t think any one really, truthfully, knows any more about the reality of god than I do – they might convince themselves that they do, but then people convince themselves that they’re Napoleon, there’s a lot of mental illness out there. Spoken like a true ignostic TC What's that then,,,,I haven't read the hole thread Born Hunter used it in one of his posts tonight I had to look it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ignosticism TC Edited September 15, 2014 by tiercel

Born Hunter 17,910
LOL I have to disagree with you there BH, if you equate an agnostic as not believing all that he is told until he can get irrefutable proof. Is that not how scientist work? They have the theory but do not believe it until it is proved? TC There is no such thing as 100% proof in a theory. You either think the theory is valid or you do not. An agnostic sits on the fence, an atheist has made a decision knowing very well that 100% proof can never be achieved. That's the same attitude a scientist takes to scientific theory. Born Hunter 17,910
My first stance in any conversation regarding the existence of God would be ignosticism. A lovely term a learnt through this thread! LOL. Thats the difference I am willing to be shown that there is a god, but as an atheist you believe categorically that there is no god so there is no point in talking about it. (Google is a wonderful tool, I just had to look it up) TC No, you've made the classic mistake of believing atheism is a closed mind. Atheism is a belief formed from what evidence we have. Much like the theory of gravity. That doesn't mean that that belief cannot change with the presentation of new evidence. However as with any theory, you cannot argue the merits and test the credibility of what is not defined. Hence the ignostic approach. Deputy Dog 28
Fascinated by the concept the FM lad brought to mind. We have no way of knowing what we believe is true, they lay claim to having their god reveal to them of his existence. Did anyone see that Christian lad who was hung in Iraq a couple of weeks ago, the lad had a smile on his face. Fooking sobering thought that. If we're right, these Christian lads have lost nout, if they're right we're fooked. Took the piss for long enough myself. I'll be doing some apologising at this rate.

Born Hunter 17,910
DD if you take that view then what's to say Christianity is the correct belief system? Just to be on the safe side best follow every belief system in history... there's a shit load! Nah f**k that, it's not possible and in many cases contradictory, you can only follow your head. There is no 'playing it safe'.
Deputy Dog 28
Been doing some research BH, the Christian faith is like no other pal, the good book they read is like no other, they've got an answer to all of life's big questions. Been watching a lot of Ravi Zacherias, do you know him? They are utterly convinced. Deluded some say, but they don't look or speak like they're deluded to me. I'm not a christisn, but it draws me like no other. Love the likes of you who can explain science, I love science. But loved FM egg analogy, think its spot on. Cheers

Mate that’s a perfectly sound sentiment, and not something I’d disagree with. All I - and I think, a lot of other people - are saying is; If people can take comfort from their faith, then good luck to them. But to those people; please don’t feel you now need to discredit main-stream science, or home school your kids, or protest against medical research or any of that other crazy s**t some religious cranks get involved in. Cheers If that's the conclusion you have drawn from what you have seen then you can only be true to your own senses and mind and follow them...... I dare say you're not alone but I also dare say many many others have come to many different conclusions for equal reasons.
