Pup Is At The Vets...

Well only yesterday I posted pics saying how well the pup is doing, 12 months old next week and this morning me, the missus and the little girl were sat in the living room waiting for that vital call off the vets with tears in out eyes.

 

Long story short she started acting funny last night, gagging, being sick, straining to shit and then had diarreah. Something wasn't right and i could tell it wasn't a normal stomach bug.

 

I got her in the vets this morning for an x-Ray and she had got a fishing hook, some line, a small pebble and some hard plastic in her stomach and intestines.

 

At one point it was looking bleak and the vet told me to expect the worst due to the suspected damage to the intestines.

 

Luckily the operation went well and I have just been to collect her from our local vets to take her to the 24/7 emergency vets where she will be put on a drip and kept in for observation.

 

Those who say you don't need insurance - it's looking at about £3800 so far and could still be rising depending on infection and any more medication that may be required. I'm only insured up to £3000 but at least it's a big help.

The vets never told me she was still deeply under anaesthetic and tried to drag her out on her lead instead of asking me to go carry her.

 

She looked a right mess and the missus burst into tears. Hopefully she's on the mend now though. Cheers.

I know mate. Been taking her fishing with me for about 4 months and I've always been vigilante about her eating stuff she shouldn't whilst there but can't have eyes on them 24/7.

I think most of the lads who work dogs and double them as family pets have a special bond with their mutts mate. For a moment this morning the vet was talking about referring me to a soft tissue specialist where the cost would go past the insurance limit a fair bit. At that point I would of had to decide between forking out £3/4k from my own pocket (which I don't have) or having her put to sleep. Not a nice situation.

 

But fingers crossed she's on the mend now.

I lost an 8 month old lab last month doing really well in her training but she eat some on her bedding got it stuck in her gut and that was that but glad u got her sorted mate

This was her first night on the lamp 6 weeks ago when she got 16...

 

 

She hasn't been since but I will give her another night on the bunnys before the season kicks in as soon as she is healed up.
