He tried, 'spose you got to give him credit for that!   The Fell Terrier cannot ever be repeated, times have moved on, things change and that book was snap-shot of an era that, today, seems so long

It's the best book plummer ever did IMO....it's a classic when all's said and done. History, I bet lots of men in that book are now passed away.

Yynsnor......Terriers of this type all over the Lakes....Still get this type poppin' up Terrain, usually dictates where Terriers end up Similiar build and Traits ,will always end up in the Hands of

North wales may have had a greater impact on the foundation stock than many think, F.Buck hunted often with packs in north wales and bought and sold terriers, i was told he bought a few almost black and a red fawn from the ynysfor hunt area, maybe when Mr Breay said he thought the line originated wales, it may not of been tongue in cheek was many thought! who knows how long the trade of working terriers has gone on for :)

Yynsnor......Terriers of this type all over the Lakes....Still get this type poppin' up

Terrain, usually dictates where Terriers end up  Similiar build and Traits ,will always end up in the Hands of men who Need a "TYPE" to work in their Domain & Weather..

That's why the Trade in Fell Type was two way....meant Hill dogs for Hill country.......Wales, Scotland,Ireland...an Russells for the Soft South ;)

Black Dogs ,just Aberdeen Terriers with Dropped ears ( SCOTTIES) of the Old Todhunters, melted into the Xbreeds of the South..

Thats' my take on it anyway .

The history of the working fell type the romantics in the lakes would have you beleave is born out of some mystical. Line of terrier when the truth is It evolved. Throught out the mining and industrial landcape as much as it did with the fell packs , your comment on these rock dogs. Well it takes a speicial tyke to find in a big borran. Up against a creature thats had thousands of years of evolution behind it to crawl a spilt in a rock or a slide through a grike. The fell book was one mans interpritation in one short story when there are chapters and characters who will never be mentioned in any book nor would they want to be. It is not an arugument over when and were or who , as the type just evolved the day its standardised would be the end ,
