Zero Hour Contracts?

I've never even heard of that.....so basically you could be signing a contract that prevents you from working elsewhere but actually doesn't give you a single hours work? that is bizarre!

What about if the work is not there......do you think the company should still just pay?.......maybe even if it meant the firm may end up going skint and having to put a complete workforce out of jobs

my mates wee brother works under that system. defo not a work shy lad.but he goes in some days,and the boss will say after an hour or two,its a bit quiet take the rest of the day off.

id tell him to go f**k himself if it were me,but he isnt that type of lad. ripping the pish if you ask me.

As 1 or 2 has mentioned its alrite for kids at home with mummy or daddy or for 1 part of a couple working and the looking to earn abit extra. but as far as running a house and supporting a family its nt really the best postion to be in .

Zero contract working hours and employment agencies ffs nowt like takeing the piss out of people willing to get up and do a days graft.

 

in place's i've worked i've known people to travel 45min to even well over an hour to get in to work, imagine traveling that amount of time to do an hour or 2 graft to then be told "ahh its not that busy, you can get off" :wallbash: :wallbash:

Then companies and the goverment will moan like f**k,about the young ones not having a work ethic. no wonder if there treated like that. yes i know work is hard to get and you should be gratefull you have work,but what good is one hours work to someone? f**k he probally spent what he made in bus fares.

We have people where i work on them!! only about 6 people most are at the end of there working life's but some are trying to rise a family with no guaranteed income as they cant claim anything while not working!! I love how people always blame EU regulations as some sort of millstone round employers necks!! i mean how bad is the EU making legislation to stop people dying and being exploited in the workplace giving people the rights to family life!!

 

Its a bit like the old days (you no when Britain was Great!! and kids went up chimneys) and there dad used to queue outside the factory and hope to get picked for a days work!!

 

I say this if you own a company that employs people on them i hope you go to the wall and end up with nothing!! so then you will no how it felt for the people you employed.

I was on a zero hour contract at the start of the year...the company just took the piss with it and i ended up earning less money than i would have on the dole...i then had to sign back on and wait another 3 weeks for money so it pissed me right off. I won't take another zero hour job again if i'm honest.

 

I wouldn't really say it's alright for the likes of me still living at home with our parents, i like it here living in a nice house but i want a secure job to earn my own money and get my own place. There is too much risk on a zero hour contract to do that.

I don't think I would say no too a job like that certainly get more days off too do what ever you want cos money is not everything in life I have just quit my full time job with no regretts alrdy got jobs lined up here there and every were just small stuff but enuff to tick me over I have just looked back over the last year on how many hours work I done on avg 10 a day and I worked close too 314 days of the year and I have done this for close too 8 years and I won't ever be doing it again cos money don't get you happiness

I've heard of them for a while but after listening to the news and wright show this morning leads me to belive that they are a total piss take, the fact that some companys take you on with no fixed hours then have you sign a contract saying you wont take work elsewhere even if your not working with them :wallbash: :wallbash:

 

i can understand that if the man/woman of the house is working and the other looks after kids then it maybe helpfull to bringin extra pennys but to employ someone that is the main bread winner on a flexi / zero hour contract then expect them to servive on 6hrs 1 week and 12 the next then 0 for 2 weeks after that is taking the mick.

 

are they really that shocked at the unemployment numbers?? because you can understand why people stay on (secure) benifits until a job came up with atleast x amount of hours than take a job that they didnt know when they were coming or going :hmm:

 

the best thing they can do is get rid of the zero contract hours policy and get rid of agencies!

 

 

Agencies aren't the problem it's the companies that are using them and stipulating terms. If you are looking for a job and see one on an agency website best thing to do is do a search for that job in that area and you'll find the company that wants the people :thumbs:

 

PS Zero hour are supposed to be for students etc just that the companies take the proverbial and use them for everyone if they can.

 

Refuse them!!!

I lived in London in the late 80's/early 90's. While the building boom was in full swing this method was still used to find the extra labour needed on a site for that week.Worked well in my experience - I always had work - only labouring, hod-carrying etc but good money if you didn't mind working for it.

uasally I put guys on this kind of contract not to be bad but to suss them out for the first 3 months or so, I don't like calling it a trial as normally when trial period is finished they slack off there are far too many piss taking employees that think they deserve a big wage when they canny dae f**k all or are just f****n lazy. :yes:
