African Grey Advice Needed

Recommended Posts

has anyone ever had one thats nice and pleasant lol

My old neighbour had one, was sweet as anything with him but was a twat to anybody else! It was meant to be a male and it used to hate his misses unless she was the only one in the house, then it was all sweet with her too.

they f***ing bite like terriers lol suppose when you think about it they can crack nuts with yon beak.i tried stabbing mine through the bars once.thats when i decided to get rid.f***ing bit me real ha

i bred them, and timney greys for 4 years leave it well alone jack they are nasty bitting likkel c**ts it wont change brother atb

Just wear your dress around the house, and he will be fine,   Fecking things live for odd years, so plenty of time to get to know him :-)

We got 2 Congo greys here, had the male roughly 7 years and female 6 ,both were couple year old when we got them

The male doesn't like me,but likes the missus and the female likes me but not the missus.lol

They are nutjobs, the male swears like a trooper and can do accents/tones of voices, the female used to say abit. And do a deisel train horn and crow cawing, but mainly just whistles and chirps now,the male screeches a lot now,and sometimes i could throttle it when it's doing that,as it goes right through me.

Kiddy wise I just make them understand not to go near the cage, once they are able to walk .once they had a nip, they tend to remember.

Wife had one a few years back. It loved her, but acted like a homicidal maniac towards me. Her nephew has him now and he is OK with his missus, but a total b*****d towards him, so no change. They mate for life, so bond closely to one person - if you take it on, be very careful - the bite pressure is frightening !

Best place for advice would probably be National Parrot Sanctuary in Friskney, Lincs. They'll also help with rehoming, if needs be.

Good luck !

We've got one, hes only two, he's been no bother apart from when I've been away for a couple of weeks if he sees me he sometimes fluffs up in his cage when you go near, but in no time at all he's ok again.. He's daft as a brush and says all sorts, sings a lot of songs as well...Loves attention and getting stroked..

Little twat got out at 12 weeks old and flew two mile away, was gone for three days, got him back though after much tears from the other half....

The majority of Greys for the pet trade are hand reared,if they are weaned off to early and not gradually, then problems always follow.Young birds can be fine for many years, they are seldom sexually mature before 3 plus years, then the behavioural problems begin in earnest, they will bond to one person and see them as their mate and they can have a tendency to protect their partner and show aggression to others. Not all Greys become this way, many, many do.They need educating from an early age, stimulation and correction of unwanted behaviour is a must with them.Birds that are passed about because they received little stimulation, lack of education and a poor diet, are only fit for an aviary environment with responsible owners,Zoos are reluctant to take them on as they don,t fit into their conservation programmes, sanctuary,s are reluctant to have them as they are so long lived they are a burden on resources, there are rescue centres for unwanted parrots where they try and educate and socialise them, then find them a permanent home.

oh there great fun to watch and listen to

mine danced, sang loads of different songs

talked non stop, used to tell the dog to do things

talked in my ex's voice even when the wife moved in

but when the tw*t grabbed hold of your finger

many a time I had the b*****d by the throat

the lad I sold it to (a mate) new the script about it not liking women

but his misses loved it, it used to ask for a kiss so one day she gives in

and gives it a kiss only for the f****r to grab her face

his misses has got a nice big scar on her face now
