just thought id see what replies, any questions you have just ask..and anyone who can reply properly with advice would be greatly appreciated

I think there is a difference between. . . . yapping occaisionaly and being a yapper.

Some dogs will give the odd yap at the start of the night out of excitment, or out of frustration when they say, slip on a turn. Some will yap more when they lose sight of the quarry in cover, either because of frustration or out of some kind of hunting instinct (maybe trying to drive the game out).

However, some dogs will just sing like a canary the whole time they are behind something.

The first is easy enough to handle and I think plenty of dogs will let out the odd noise from time to time, and be good dogs, take a lot of game etc etc etc.

For curing yapping . . . . . . i don't think it's always possible, some dogs are just noisy feckers. But if you were going to try, I would say, get the dog fit as a fiddle, and build it up with nice easy runs on the lamp etc. And keep your fingers crossed.

But the second. . . . i'm not so sure, they might still work away well enough, but they are losing out.

Have you ever tried to run a hundred meters whilst shouting . . . . . . trust me, you won't run your best time!

For me, to keep a "yapper" I would have to really, really like the dog! But could also depend on where your running it, how much ground you have, have you another dog to take out when you don't want to be embarrassed :icon_redface:

But lets be honest, you wouldn't have it for two minutes if you didn't have permission!!

but if its only on occasion why wouldn't you? or would you? like ideation said theres a yapper then frustration every now and then

theres yapping and a yap do my head in if my dog was yapping on a run being a beddy cross but he is mute not a sound but will bark if there is a bunnie in the brambles as he as been worked with cover dogs and likes the outside and his letting the cover dogs know he as found been out with pips dog good bag filler and i think its frustration at the rabbit getting to the cover funny beddy x gets slated on here as yappers i have yet to have one that does it as for pats dog if it does it now and again i could handle that it ran a good few weekend never yapped once as said get the dog running fit see how you go give the dog a chance it could be a good un

Would anyone breed from an out and out yapper ?

most dogs only yapp because theyve been started to early and had no chance of catching a rabbit as they havent matured enough and just got frustrated,so thats down to the owner,i would breed of a yapper in them circumstances but if you brought it on properly and it opened i wouldnt then

I think it's just in some dogs mate  And quite possibly a trait that could be passed on. But I know what you are saying
