TOPPER 1,809
its common sense really if your NOT competnent to do the job yourself without causing the animal anymore suffering then get it to the vet but if you know your stuff and can do it carry on they will have a hard job proving you didnt do the job right if the dog heal s ok and is not suffering Quote Link to post
ollywilli 49
So just to check it is illegal to jab your own dogs too? Quote Link to post
riohog 5,938
i think technicly a farmer must keep a record of all drugs ect on the farm , and when it is administered.and dogs dont come under livestock .. Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
No, it's not illegal - just bear in mind that some insurance companies won't recognise non-vet jabs, and some policies won't pay out if your dog isn't vet jabbed. Also, kennels won't accept non certificate jabs. If neither of those things are likely to apply to you - crack on. I get mine done for £15 a dog at the local pet shop ( Pets at Home ) - for £15 a year, I know it is a proper, in date vacc that will be signed onto the vacc cert by a qualified vet. Personal choice. 1 Quote Link to post

northern lad 2,292
dogs are not classed as livestock so are excluded from the self treatment clause of livestock, this is why if you want to order say benzol benzoate for a dog online you carnt without a perscription, however if the same product is for use on a horse, its avialable over the counter at most countrystores and online without perscription. When was Benzyl Benzoate made prescription only only bought some last year... Quote Link to post

When was Benzyl Benzoate made prescription only only bought some last year... its perscription only for dogs, bells who were the uk distributor stopped doing it a few years ago because of the new regulations that were brought it to control its distribution in the uk. however its still on general sale for the treatment of sweet itch in horses. Fucknows feller but everyone who owns lurchers or terriers around here jab them up themselves or get a friend to do it never had problems unless your putting your dogs in boarding kennels then you need to take them to a vet and have a certificate.atb Quote Link to post
