jonansuki 21
just a quick question my 5 month old pup was attacked by a english bull terrier yesterday i had to take him to the vets today which cost a fortune i know the person that has the dog am i in the right to ask him for the money to cover the vet bills or would you report it and let the police deal with it?? the dog grabbed his back leg and it swelled massive and has bites were it held on but hopefully he should be ok in a week or so Quote Link to post
Lab 10,979
If your dog was completely in the right then of course you should ask him to foot the bill. Any decent person would pay up without any questions asked. 4 Quote Link to post
pinguu 169
Thats your call, if you go to police it may end up turning nasty, if you know the owner and they are cooperative, i personally would approach them with a copy of the bill, even a donation towards the bill would be a result. atb 1 Quote Link to post
ratpackjack 272
It all depends on the owner,if you know him then only you know how he would react but i know if it was me i would cover the bill depending on how you asked ofc Quote Link to post

J.DOG 1,355
Well one of my lurchers as a pup was attacked and had one of his back legs badly chewed up I took the dog to vet got a bill of receipt and took it too them and said i want you to pay , at first he was reluctant infact he said f**k off but ironacly I have and English bull terrier which I took round and said look pal pay the bill or ill let my dog put £200 worth of holes in your dogs leg , might sound bad but his dog has attacked several people's dogs including a 7 yr old girls Yorkshire terrier , he paid the bill I reported him to the pigs now his dog has to wear a muzzle when in public , I hate goings to the pigs but in this case it was best given the dogs history Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,328
If they were both off their leashes you haven't a leg to stand on if you go to the police infact I'd be surprised if they wanted to get involved at all? But if he has any morals even if both dogs were off the leashes he should either foot the bill or likes been said at the least split it with you..hope the pup makes a good recovery..ATB Andy Quote Link to post
neems 2,406
ask him to pay, keep all the receipts etc. if your dog was offlead i doubt you can take it any further, but if yours was on lead and his was off then you could report it if he doesn't pay. I'd definitely ask him face to face first. Quote Link to post

huntingladjohn 14
there was a staff near mine that attacked a few dogs nearly killed a yorkshire terrier and done some damage to afew other dogs they tried asking for vets bills seen as though it was his dogs fault and he just gave them aloud of grief and threatened them, it tried to attack my springer bitch when i was my local wood she was heavily pregnant and i went total APE there was a few people that witnessed it and was trying to pull it back but my 2 other dogs my borderlakey and lurcher heard the noise and piled into the staff and gave it a absolute hiding, my terrier whos a seasoned foxing dog went crazy it was utter chaos but after the dust settled i took the staffy to its owner as it had escaped and said next time it wont come back.
