mouse 282
SINCE I LAST POSTED BAILEY THE LEVERETT IS NEARLY READY FOR RELEASE.10 DAYS AGO I MOVED HER DOWN TO MY FOLKS HOUSE WHERE SHE IS LIVING IN A 8 FOOT HIGH WIRE FENCED CHICKEN RUN WITH ELECTRIC FENCING AROUND IT.THE RUN IS ABOUT A THIRD OF AN ACRE AND IS GRASS AND WELL OVERGROW IN PLACES.SHE IS HAVING MINIMAL CONTACT WITH HUMANS EXCEPT WHEN HENS ARE FED IN A MORNING. SHE HAS TURNED VERY WILD INDEED AND IS GONE AS SOON AS SHE SEES A HUMAN OR HEARS A DOG WHICH WAS EXACTLEY WHAT WE WANTED HER TO TURN INTO.SHE HAS NO FEED FROM US AT ALL AND IS TURNING INTO A VERY FINE CREATURE INDEED. THE KIDS CANNOT WAIT TO RELEASE HER BACK INTO THE WILD AND SEE HER RUN OFF TO FREEDOM. AFTER SEEING HER ON THAT FIRST NIGHT AT 2 DAYS DAYS OLD AND THINKING SHE WOULD BE DEAD BY MORNING I AM SO PROUD OF WHAT MY KIDS HAVE DONE TO GET HER TO THIS STAGE. PEOPLE THINK THAT ALL OF US FOLK INVOLVED IN FIELDSPORTS ARE BARBARIC BUT WE ARE REALLY THE PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT THE COUNTRYSIDE AND ITS WILDLIFE. WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED AND POST SOME PICTURES ON HER RELEASE. CHEERS MOUSE

fireman 11,473
Grand that is and well done to you all for sure, have you thought of a ear tag so the kids and yourself would recognise her from other hares?.Was thinking along the lines of what they use in Ireland on the park hares. mouse 282
will put some pictures up when she is released but at the moment we are just leaving her to herself.as for the tag idea i can understand what people are saying but we just want her to go free with no restrictions .its been amazing rearing her and hopefully soon she will back in the wild doing whatever she wants.

NEWKID 29,105
Good luck on the release, I hope some of the people who shouldn't be on a hunting site read this and at least for 1 minute realize people who are involved in field sports have far more respect and knowledge of the countryside than they could ever dream of...... Well done to you and your kids....

undisputed 1,664
For me one of the best threads on here for awhile....one thing bothering me though....Hares like most animals in the wild use the same routes and scent marks to navigate from place to place, releasing her is going to be a very dangerous time as she will be new to the area. I hope it goes well and ends well and it would be great if you had some way of recognising her in the wild....anyways best of luck and your kids can be really proud
