once again im saddened by the state of the lurcher and terrier seen in n ireland its really a disgrace all for the sake of a trophy for myself ive been going to lurcher and terrier shows for 15 years or so and to tell you the truth i have no intrested in atteding another the lurcher racing seen has attracted a great deal of new comers over the last few years and want to get to the top and this is where alot of greyhound types come in

but me ill stick to my working dogs keep my head down and get on with my sport

    mate i had stopped going to the shows for about 10 years and decided to go to Ballywalter and Shanes this year just to let my two wee lads see the whole fieldsports variety as they are hunting mad.And to be honest im the same as you,i found that our end of things (lurchers) and the racing in particular to be a complete joke and i cant see me going back to any in the near future. Im not on to slate anyone who is into racing but it didn't take a genius to realise most of the winners if not full greyhounds were as close to full as you can get.To me its just not fair on the lads who have a genuine fast working lurcher that they are conned by these cheats who are beating genuine lurchers with track greyhounds. Like you ill stick to using my own dogs where it counts, in the field and leave the shows to the guys who prize a rosette/trophy and a few quid before their own honour .And Dessie on a personal note, GOOD LUCK with the case.

now we are getting laughed at knowen for all this bitching and all the shite that goes on at shows are sport is going down the pan thanks alot lads

Robert,

Agreed - I have a suggestion - let us all come on here on under our own names and put our points of view openly and up front and let us IGNORE or OSTRACISE those who can only peddle abuse from behind an alias.

Albertj

im all up for that from day one on here ive alway came under my own second name and always sign my first name at the bottom of my posts

so is dessies show cancelled becaise of fiona rose and the 2 greyhound girls fighting ? why doesnt he just cancel the racing then ?

Yes I agree ,its allways the racing that causes argueing at these shows up north...why not just leave out the racing and run your show...and best of luck with the trouble your having, hope it goes your way

As he would loose over 200pound as at camlough there was over 80dogs ran in just straight racing an then there was more in the stimulated racing so people like racing there dogs at these shows an if some people hold the racing first some people go home afterwards as they don't like showing there dogs

All dogs, when registered with the ICC for stud duties, are required to give a hair sample for DNA purposes, as is a brood bitch when she has her first litter of pups presented for earmarking at 8-10 weeks.

I really don`t know how taking a sample from a `suspect` dog will determine if he is full greyhound or not ?

To determine parentage, you would need both parents to be DNA. There is nothing to stop breeding two greyhounds together, as they are not registered in the DNA system, calling them Lurchers and there is no way of proving if they are 100% Greyhounds, or in the majority of cases 95% Greyhound X`s by getting DNA done.

I have just spoken to Tom Buckley at the National Equine Centre in Kildare, where our stud dogs are registered and he put me on to the DNA Department at Wetherbys and they told me that they can`t determine what breed of dog is from a DNA sample, all they can determine is parentage, for which they need both parents. So all this `talk` about DNA is a load of rubbish, unless everybody concerned with a certain dog is happy to bring the dog and both parents for testing ! Can just see that happening !!

couldn't see the two parents of the dog in question turning up, because in most cases both would have a tatoo in one ear. :whistling:

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
