WILF 49,722
My old sprinter Luton had 450' 000 on the clock and was going strong until it got nicked.....no cam belt to worry about, regular service......had 310 d and 308 d before that all had over 250'000 on the clock when I sold them and were still working well. Miles on a merc never bother me that much........
secretagentmole 1,701
Sort of rule of thumb is what age it is then on average it should have been doing 12'000 miles a year. So if you buy a 5 year old van then it should have around 60k on the clock... My mates got a Caddy. He's had it for years........a wee red wan and looks like postman pat. He cant fault it...think its done 140k or more and never had anything seriously wrong with it. He's lived in a few cracking houses and the wee red shed has been sitting in the drive at all of them.............cracks me up.... Apart from the fact that vans are classed as Commercial vehicles and different mileage rules apply!
RossM 8,149
if i had that money for a wee van i'd get a wee kangoo trekk, the 4x4 van which would be ideal.

iamduvern 62
Astra 1.3 cdti H go for the estate version rather than the van cheaper tax and insurance The 1.3 has the chain driven cam but the egr valve is a pain to take off should it need cleaning sensible driving gives a good return Ive squeezed 700 miles out of a tank full (11 gallons) The van is a lot noisier than the estate mine has acoustic foam which helps, the engine has the Fiat lump in and its nippy in town and ticks along nicely at 70 on the motorway at around 2000rpm Servicing costs are resonable as are parts Ive had mine for 7 months and put 12000 on the clock and had no problems apart from the egr valve that needed a clean
gnasher16 31,346
Its mainly for work (Plasterer) and to transport the dogs in. My work is south yorkshire based 10,000 is a rough estimate may do more may do less. Thanks for all the replies gents. If its for plastering you will have to rule out the smaller vans like berlingos or swb connects because you wont be able to get the 8x4 sheets in .....if i remember right the lwb connect is the smallest van you will be able to get them in......used to have a yard full of vans years ago you could of virtually helped yourself but its a Mcdonalds now
