Born Hunter 17,910
Interest point of view Gnasher, I was hoping you and other experienced lads would comment. In a different environment (say a family only competition) would your view change? I understand kids of that age dont compete but do they spar in the sports of boxing and kick boxing? Or is it strictly training?
fcuktheban 140
It's nothing but boys wrestling, at least they are being monitored... http://www.myspace.com/video/everything-we-seek-to-be-we-already-are/wars-of-the-poons-vol-1/18370124

Toka 10
One of the lads off here was at the bout...said it has been blown out of proportion by the media [no surprise there!!] There were plenty of people looking after the welfare of the kids...one of them did end up in tears but not through pain/injury...just the fact that he was losing and couldnt cope with that. He was asked if he wanted to stop on a number of occasions but wanted to carry on to see if he could pull it back. There was no striking involved, just grappling. Got to agree that the media promotion surrounding the mma stuff isnt great when you look at the kids side but i was bought up on masrtial arts and am a great believer that it promotes a lot of positives in youngsters, you always get to odd exception though as with everything. Be interesting to see what else come of this... atb
leegreen 2,247
My son will be learning a martial art just as soon as he's old enough (12 weeks old might be a bit early to start him!). When he's ready do you fancy having a wager against my 12 week old son? only kidding, my son's only 10 weeks
gonetoearth 5,144
under aba rules kids need to be 11 years of age and hold a medical card to compete allthough exibition bouts may take place tech sparing etc were kid younger may take part but no contact takes place , kids as young as 8 attend but only learn basics and the sessions are short ,
leegreen 2,247
ok the kids in this " cage fighting " video are only grappling.....but if they are not trying to arm bar,leg lock, choke etc then what is the purpose of it ? just to roll around on the floor .....and in a working mens club with beer being supped, very odd if you ask me.....id be a little dubious of men who pay to watch 8 year old boys roll around on the floor anyway Wow that puts a new slant on things, never would of thought of that. My boy has done Karate, Kick Boxing and now Judo at the ripe old age of nine. He likes Judo the best as the others just seemed like a whole heap of move and various exercise, with Judo it was straight into fighting and this pleased him a lot. I can see your point about the above but I'd rather not think about it like that, it's the paying bit that makes it a bit suspect.
Attack Fell Terrier 864
There REALLY is something seriously wrong with a country when we're told this grappling contest between two young lads is BARBARIC!!!! and that it's right to call an 8 year old boy a girl because he said he feels like a girl! It's like they're trying to feminise Britain's entire young male population! It's just f*cking unbelievable!!!!
secretagentmole 1,701
They ban this then they have to ban Judo and any other discipline in which throws and submission holds can take place, next it will be rugby and football!

It's just f*cking unbelievable!!!! right or wrong I blame the germans for this mate they took an entire generation of brave men from us and left a generation of children being raised by their mothers not that they did a bad job but they raised them with a different attitude than they would have had with a fathers been there and now we see the results a couple of generations down the line. trappa 518
My lad is training. Nothin special, he is only 10 but i tap every time to his rear naked choke and his armbars. Its good to give the kids confidence, hopefully they will grow up to be able to stand up to bullies and ar*eholes.
LAZYBSTARD 225
all the kids around us go to it because there nothing else for them to do cant see it being a problem keeps them of the streets ( it will come in handy for when they get up a bit an go to prison ) Edited September 23, 2011 by LAZYBSTARD
PeakOil 352
Feck me the Police and Preston Council are poking their noses in now. Yet they are the first to wail about cuts to budgets and services and not having the brass or manpower to do their jobs properly.

In a different environment (say a family only competition) would your view change? I understand kids of that age dont compete but do they spar in the sports of boxing and kick boxing? Or is it strictly training? I couldnt really say about kick boxing but no,8 year olds would not be allowed to spar boxing, they will be taught to understand their own body as regards fitness,to deliver punches, hit a bag etc etc but no contact....and rightly so in my opinion.....as for what kids get up to away from the gym of course boys fight thats perfectly normal......but to put a kid in the position where he can end up crying and embarrass himself is not what fightings all about at that age.........i cant believe the fella on this thread who said they kept them going to see if the kid wanted to carry on ...jesus christ its not a game test !..they should be getting taught the basics not seeing if their spirit can be broken !!.....most 8 year olds will cry off if they get hurt thats perfectly normal,it dont mean they wont turn into the greatest fighter the worlds ever seen later on.....Mike Tyson used to talk of how he cried like a girl when kids bashed him up as a 10 year old,it means nothing at that age you gotta let kids be kids you dont want to break their spirit before they even know what sports about.....i still dont understand what the point of it all was myself..... I found it interesting what the British Cage Fighting Association had to say about it.....i think calling the parents " morons " was probably a bit strong, but i agree with their views, its unecessary and quite frankly pretty stupid.....and i think anyone with a half decent understanding of athletic conditioning/fighting would probably say the same.....but i respect others opinions all the same http://uk.eurosport..../article/68897/ Edited September 23, 2011 by gnasher16
