mouse 282
our bungalow is heated by 2 log burners and it saves me a fortune.got them both at auctions and they are great.got the big one in the kitchen with a copper kettle on top all the time to make a brew.never turned the heating on in 2 years since we moved in and get all my wood off the estate for free.even cook bacon on top in the winter for my butties. lanesra 4,007
Rather than a wood burner why not consider a multi fuel burner Artic....you have a greater choice of fuels, heat and length of time your have heat for Haven't the foggiest what make mine is, but worth it's weight in gold. 100% agree moll, had one 2 yrs now , multi fuel , wouldnt be without 1 now . They are expensive things to run though if you did not get free wood. Coal is £240 a ton here (and that is the cheap-medium price) and i use between 2-3 ton per year, wood is free when i can get it but not enough to run the fire on for long, plus you don't get enough heat for this cottage from wood alone. To buy logs is about £3.00 for a small bag, they are usually pine which in my experience is crap for heat.
artic 595
I get 500kg of coal for £90 and wood usually comes free, if not then it's about |£110 per cubic meter. Fuel bills have gone through the roof, so this change is needed.

We live in a smokeless zone, wood has to have lowest moisture content you can get, coal is smokeless
