rob190364 2,594
Anyone else think they should introduce a new rule on the for sale section preventing people from putting dogs and pups on there "free to a good home".....it wouldn't prevent peddling but it'd certainly make it a lot harder for them. Everytime I look on there people are giving dogs away for free, and while it's for good intentions you can't help but feel sorry for the dogs as I'm sure a lot of them will end up with morons who don't look after them properly or get passed from pillar to post. If you want a dog it's not a big ask to pay out £100 or so to buy it, and if you can't afford to pay £100 for a dog then you can't afford to keep a dog, simple! Quote Link to post
paulus 26
true they never get passed up the chain always going down hill untill they reach the bottom, dead or abandend Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
Think it is bad how many dogs get shifted in general mate not only on this site, I looked at it a bit different tho with regards to this site, at least if there advertised on Here people can get in touch and hear of how the dogs doing etc and not just anybody they'll never see again from a paper add etc, I think if you change anything wether free or for sale it will make it worse for the dog to be honest, as for peddelers its really the person who's dog it is thats responsible for making sure the dog gos to a good home and not just anybody and to follow it up and make sure the person who got it never sold it, and it's kept well, as for dogs always moving down the chain again thats the people shifting dogs not doing there duty then to make sure it gets looked after, problem is people dont think things through enuff and seem to make instant decisions thinking lets get another dog Edited May 28, 2011 by grant_c Quote Link to post
The one 8,589
And selling on behalf of a mate , Aye right that should be banned as well Quote Link to post
Guest jt750
All selling/ giving away should be banned on here simple as ...the instant i want the best culture and i want it now has seriously bled over into the dog world and this is just another easy way to get rid of any dog be it a world class hare killer or 12 month old pup thats had the bollocks run out of it and is dead on its feet Quote Link to post

chartpolski 28,296
At least if a dog is offered "free to a good home" on here, it MIGHT get a good home ! What's the alternative; ending up in a pound, or worse still, dumped on the side of a motorway ? Cheers. Quote Link to post
MOO 730
IMO pups should never be sold ...then there wouldnt be so many litters being bred 1 Quote Link to post
staffs riffraff 1,068
I agree with moo If there was no money in it then very few litters would be bred Quote Link to post

KenKeeping 13
I admit, I payed money for my Sal, as most of you have! But if you look back at the history of the Saluki, you will find that the beduins never sold a dog, but gave it as a present to a honoured friend, or as a reward, etc. They were bred from well known stock, and are treated with respect. Dogs over here, whatever make model or breed, are too often used as money making scemes. Made to order crosses. Or: Someone makes up a cross he thinks will sell, and after finding no one wants them, and he aint ganna make lots of cash on them, what happens to them then? If the money wasnt to be made, then I recon less litters would be born, but thats only what I think! 1 Quote Link to post
chook1 184
I dont think it would matter - morons still buy dogs, they still pass them from piller to post and still dump them if they cant get rid. I have two dogs both who was bought by other people then gotten rid of, one dog cost 200 quid - the other over 600 quid, luckily for both dogs they landed on their feet, one was handed in to rescue and the other was given direct to me through a friend, they will be hear for life - but it could quite easily gone another way for these dogs. DottyDoo 500
site would only benefit from banning the selling of livestock/dogs.... Quote Link to post
scalesntails 118
Money doesn't stop someone being an arsehole. People just need to be more careful on who they rehome their dog with and should maybe get the person the find someone to vouch for them. I think part of the problem is that everyone sells their dogs as amazing super dogs that can take all quarry single handed day or night from 3 miles away and catch 100% of the time. People buy these dogs and find they were sold because they are jackers or have no prey drive and sell them on again because they don't fit their needs. If your dog is a shit worker then find it a pet home instead of passing it off as a worker. Quote Link to post
Cold Ethyl 63
Some of the worst people i have met collecting dogs are from posh huge houses and people with loads of cash under their bed. They see the dog as a toy it can be replaced some of the folk with next to nothing have had dogds in great nick well fed and well cared for. Those who can afford to do so are the ones buying dogs dumping them and getting a new one when they mess up training the first one.
