Yes mate the attitude of some folk is unreal - it's either they have a dog on a lead and cos they wouldnt dare let it off assume your dog is 'running wild' despite obviously being under control or worse they let their f*****g dog off the lead and it runs rampage and they say 'he's playing', 'he's never done that before' or best 'IT'S NOT MY FAULT' . . . . uhhhh well who exactly whos fault is it then???
bird 10,014
So this is a bit of a rant and i'm bound to get some flak but who cares! It seems these days that almost on a daily basis i cross paths with a person/people who posses either a child/children or a dog/dogs that they shouldnt have, or both. When i say 'shouldnt have' i mean that they have no idea or ability to bring it up properly and dont have any control of it. Lets just focus on the dogs (although its all applicable to the children to), twice in the last week or so we have had sheep attacks, first time 5 dead and the rest of the flock pushed into a freezing stream, it happened at night and no one knew whos dog/s did it, then the second time i was looking out of my window and a sheep went tearing past followed by a dog which proceeded to pull it down and lay into it. . . . . . the dog was trailing a lead and followed by three women who were screaming/shouting (no effect!) and generally panicking. I raced out, kicked dog off and gave the women a mouth full, to be told it wasn't their fault, wasn't the dogs fault etc etc etc, it just pulled the lead out of their hand, went through a hedge, over a fence and started trying to kill sheep. Oh and they had another 5 dogs with them! Turns out they went to a rescue and just rescued 8 or so dogs which are all big beasts Alsatian size and have 0 training! These dogs will all end up shot i'm sure and would be better left in a rescue. Now today i was ferreting some local woods when a f*****g terrier x and a collie came steaming a long and piled into my pup, luckily he isnt a push over and i was stood there so gave them a few whacks with my stick and lifted pup, when the owner came a long he said 'they just want to play' - o right thats why she was hanging off his kneck? Final one - new neighbours move in with 3 dogs - also not stock broken, proceed to chase sheep about paddock! Again - she says they 'just want to play'. Bring on dog licences i say and mandatory training and testing! Yes it would be a pain for us but would stop these dozy fuckers who think - i'm moving to the country - lets just 'get' some dogs, no need to train them, why bother? TWATS! Rant over. See it all the time here. People walking dogs that are not suited, and also dogs not wearing the appropriate collars/leads. I totally ignore them when my dogs go over for a sniff, and walk past them and whistle my dogs to follow. Usually leaving a red faced townie to untangle themselves. I do not and will not have anything to do with uneducated townies that move to the country not willing to except the way of life here. NEVER! i was born in the town, but have lived in the country for 20 years. Bottom line is dogs should be trained + on a lead when by live stock, it dont matter where you come from. All my lurchers are broke to stock form 10 weeks old. i have friend who is a land owner with sheep+cattle. I go on there every day training my pup, if you keep dogs what ever the breed you should train them full stop.

shepp 2,285
I don't understand how some people think it's fine for there dogs to stand in the garden all day barking. My neighbour looks after a a right nasty little shit arsed westie, and when I first moved in here it would stand the other side of the fence and bark constantly, following me up and down the garden. I wrote to the neighbour and spoke to her but she had no interest in doing anything to stop it. In the end I proped up the fence panel and gave the little fu.cker a good hiding. Now when I enter my garden the dog goes indoors. Ahh peace.... Edited December 22, 2010 by shepp
Cold Ethyl 63
Got to admit other peoples dogs running up to any of mine is a no no if theyre on the lead if theyre free they dont really bother although i do have to watch the big man. Both of them will take no crap of another dog and if it goes for them they will go all out to do damage. The male flung a collie several feet across a car park after the owner let it off to say hello cos he felt my dogs look nervous lol.Tried explaining it wasnt a good idea and then WHAM too late.He was cracking up even after i pointed out if he hadnt let hound off lead they would never have been able to get it.Kids flying over to mine does it too cos i know theyre great with kids but the parents dont! Not too mention the little brat in the pet shop today screaming his head off wake up at a python and the poor thing was slithering into the corner out of the way he was screaming omg your horrible. So me being me i had to say well maybe it thinks you look disgusting bearing in mind all he sees is two big googly eyes looking in at him.His mother then retrieved him lol. Hollie 21
The ones that bug me are the people that don't allow their dogs to behave like dogs, keep it on a lead its whole life and go into complete panic mode as soon as they see another dog approaching, i always put mine on a lead if i see someone coming towards us and they are on lead, especially as Indi still can not resist the temptaion to run at them full speed and then go into 'stupid puppy' mode, i was push biking along the old railway track last summer, lovely evening, Kylo is trotting beside me offlead, doing his thing, 2 women are walking the same direction we are going in (back towards us) Kylo isnt bothered about other dogs so i just keep going, as we pass the women she goes INSANE at me, shouting and swearing that her dog is aggressive, what the f**K am i playing at BLAH BLAH BLAH, Kylo is still at my side and has ignored the other dog so i dont see the problem.....................brakes on, grind to a halt, turn around and see the women struggling with her dog who is straining and trying to get to Kylo, i ask her what her problem is and why she is swearing at me, after being abused i swiftly tell her that if she knew anything about dogs she would be able to tell from her dogs body language that he was not being aggressive. he simply wanted to say hello to another dog after spending many miserable years on the end of a lead attatched to a stuck up old bag, i told her that her dog was no problem at all, SHE was causing the problem and maybe she should relax a little and then her dog would!!! her face was a picture! The truth is anyone can own a dog, it doesnt mean they should!!!!
boyo 1,398
i keep racing greyhounds as well as lurchers andcant let them off the lead for various reasons one being the one is a real mean b*****d with other dogs and a few times i ve had to go on to other lurcher mates whos dogs are off the lead and coming up for a sniff not much fun trying to hang on to three fit muscled bound greyhounds who dont think its fair that the other dog is off the lead pestering them so sometimes it works both ways .when your trained dogs are off the lead . If i didnt get Indi on a lead in time and she dashed off towards a dog that was on lead, i wouldnt blame the owner if she ended up injured, it would be my fault not theirs but i know that most of the general public wouldnt be like that!! robo-christ 40
im against any liscensing partly because it without a shadow of a doubt wouldnt work and partly because we should all only be responsible for ourselves. that said for me the dog has to be 100% under control, with my lurchers that means they stay on lead in public and for my stafford it mean's he never given the chance, his lead goes on his collar before the chain comes off before walks, the only time he isn't restrained by a lead or chain is when he is in the house with us,which isnt more than once a day.
